Job Title: Bank Accounting Specialist
Job Description
The Bank Accounting Specialist reviews, reconciles, and analyzes high volumes of store transaction data to ensure accurate alignment with bank files and the general ledger. This role focuses on daily and monthly bank reconciliations, timely resolution of discrepancies, and proactive management of uncollected deposits to minimize financial risk. The specialist collaborates closely with banks, armored car couriers, store management, Treasury, Accounting, and Operations to maintain accurate financial records and support the integrity of store-level financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Review and reconcile large volumes of daily transaction data from stores to corresponding bank files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Research exceptions, transaction variances, and unreconciled store transactions, and process corrections as needed.
- Interact extensively with banks, armored car couriers, and store management to resolve discrepancies and clarify transaction issues.
- Monitor the aging of uncollected deposits on a daily basis to assess risk and identify issues that could result in significant loss exposure.
- Process adjustments to store deposit balances within established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Work closely with the Treasury team to address concerns related to bank data, service levels, and operational issues.
- Escalate identified concerns on store deposit exceptions to Accounting and Operations management in a timely manner.
- Prepare daily and monthly journal entries to accurately record transactions in the accounting system.
- Respond to case inquiries and disputes from stores regarding transaction discrepancies and provide clear explanations.
- Reconcile month-end bank balances to the general ledger for assigned bank accounts, ensuring all differences are identified and resolved.
- Analyze reconciliation results and journal entries to confirm that outcomes are reasonable, appropriate, and aligned with accounting policies.
- Develop and maintain a strong understanding of data flow from store systems to accounting systems to support accurate reconciliations.
- Monitor ownership changes of stores and adjust reconciliations and related adjustments accordingly.
- Provide timely, thorough responses to cases from stores and follow up with functional groups such as field consultants, franchisees, help desk, or vendors until complete resolution.
- Assist the team leader, team members, and management with special projects and initiatives as needed.
Essential Skills
- 3 to 4 years of accounting experience with a strong focus on high-volume reconciliation duties.
- Proficiency in reconciliation of bank accounts, store transactions, and general ledger balances.
- Working knowledge of accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills for analyzing large data sets, performing reconciliations, and preparing supporting schedules.
- Ability to read and understand accounting policies, procedures, and systems documentation.
- Ability to use software and systems reference manuals to navigate and troubleshoot accounting and reconciliation systems.
- Strong written communication skills to prepare clear written recaps and documentation of corrections and their impact on store financial statements.
- Strong verbal communication skills to provide explanations to stores and internal stakeholders regarding discrepancies and adjustments.
- Attention to detail and accuracy when reviewing, reconciling, and recording financial data.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Associate degree or bachelors/4-year degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Experience working with large volumes of transactional data in a multi-location retail or similar environment.
- Experience interacting with external banking partners and service providers such as armored car couriers.
- Familiarity with store-level financial statements and the impact of deposit and transaction corrections.
- Ability to analyze trends and anomalies in reconciliation results and recommend process improvements.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Treasury, Accounting, Operations, and store personnel.
- Interest in long-term growth opportunities in accounting and financial operations.

This role supports a large, high-volume convenience retail network with thousands of stores and a significant global presence. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
