AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Engineer to join our team in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and contribute to environmental investigation, remediation, and site redevelopment projects. This position offers an opportunity to apply engineering fundamentals to environmental challenges while learning from experienced engineers, scientists, and geologists in a collaborative consulting environment.

This position is expected to begin ASAP.

In this role, you will support the planning and implementation of environmental field programs, evaluate site investigation data, and assist with the development and implementation of remediation solutions. Field responsibilities may include environmental sampling, groundwater monitoring, remediation system inspections, collection of operating data, and oversight of subcontractors performing drilling, excavation, and other field activities. Office responsibilities will include engineering calculations, data analysis, technical report preparation, and support for remediation design and project documentation.

The ideal candidate is interested in developing practical environmental engineering skills, solving technical problems, and contributing to projects that improve environmental quality and protect human health. Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills, combined with a commitment to health and safety, will be important to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with environmental site investigations, remediation projects, and environmental engineering studies for public- and private-sector clients.
  • Support field programs involving soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and soil vapor sampling, groundwater monitoring, and remediation system data collection.
  • Assist with evaluating environmental conditions and identifying potential engineering approaches for site investigation, remediation, and environmental management.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze field and laboratory data to support environmental assessments, engineering evaluations, and remediation decisions.
  • Assist with the preparation of engineering calculations, technical memoranda, investigation reports, remediation work plans, design documents, figures, and other project deliverables.
  • Support the evaluation, operation, and monitoring of environmental remediation systems, including documenting system performance and identifying conditions that may require further investigation.
  • Assist with field oversight of subcontractors performing drilling, well installation, excavation, sampling, and other intrusive or remediation activities.
  • Help evaluate project activities and technical results against applicable environmental regulations, permits, engineering standards, and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with engineers, scientists, geologists, laboratories, contractors, and other project team members to support project schedules, budgets, and technical objectives.
  • Participate in project health and safety activities, follow site-specific safety plans, and help identify and communicate potential hazards.
  • Support project administration, including data management, quality control, records maintenance, and tracking project deliverables.
  • Travel to project locations as required, including occasional overnight stays, and perform fieldwork in varying weather conditions and site environments.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
  • Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or academic background relevant to environmental engineering, environmental remediation, water quality, site investigation, or environmental data analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork, including outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow established engineering procedures, quality requirements, and applicable health and safety standards.
  • Relevant years of experience supporting environmental engineering, site investigation, remediation, or environmental consulting projects.
  • Master's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current refresher training, as applicable.
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with environmental sampling, groundwater monitoring, remediation systems, engineering calculations, or environmental data analysis through employment, internships, or academic projects.
  • Familiarity with environmental remediation technologies, including groundwater treatment, soil remediation, and contaminant containment or removal.
  • Familiarity with federal and state environmental regulations, including requirements administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
  • Experience preparing technical reports, engineering calculations, figures, data tables, or project documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other standard Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with engineering or data analysis software is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an interest in developing practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage assigned tasks, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with clients, colleagues, and subcontractors.
  • This position is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and requires a hybrid work schedule that includes scheduled in-office work.
  • Fieldwork and travel to project sites are required. Travel may include regional assignments, occasional overnight stays, and work at sites with varying physical and environmental conditions.
  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
