Job Description
Launch your engineering career through Avista's Engineering Development Program (EDP), a two-year rotational program designed to provide hands-on experience across multiple engineering teams/departments while building the technical, business, and leadership skills needed for a successful career in the utility industry. As an Engineer in the EDP, you will have the opportunity to rotate every six months among various engineering teams across the company such as; the Innovation Lab, System Planning, Protection, Substation, Transmission, Generation, Distribution, SCADA, Meter Automation, Gas, Operations and Efficiency Engineering.
As a full-time employee, you’ll get the chance to explore up to four engineering teams/departments through six-month rotations, gaining exposure to everything from energy innovation and grid modernization to power delivery, generation, automation, and system planning. Throughout the program, you'll gain valuable exposure to multiple engineering teams with the goal of finding the right long-term fit and transitioning into a regular engineering position at Avista.

You will collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders across the company. Work duties will encompass a broad range of engineering aspects to support design and analysis as well as offering the potential for field engineering support of construction activities for both capital improvement and maintenance projects. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative learning manner to foster growth and development of individuals, programs, and the company. There is the potential for involvement with innovative projects using state of the art techniques and methodologies. Requires constant collaboration on multi-functional project teams to assist in the successful completion of projects big and small.

Requirements
  • ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or its equivalent in technical training with an EIT certificate
  • Preference will be given to applicants with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Preference will be given to applicants with internships/work experience with utilities
  • Effective and flexible communication skills
Entry Engineer:
  • 0-1 years engineering work experience preferred
Hiring Range: $68,027 to $87,754
Assistant Engineer:
  • A minimum of one (1) year of engineering work experience required
Hiring Range: $77,595 to $100,486

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Hybrid work options are available for this role. The successful candidate will be required to work at our Spokane, Washington headquarters at least 3 days per week including Mondays and Tuesdays with additional day(s) determined by the manager.

In compliance with state laws, we provide the full salary range for each position, along with the typical hiring range based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
