Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Epic Interoperability Consultant to provide senior-level analysis, design, implementation, and support for healthcare integration solutions. The consultant will serve as a technical subject matter expert for Epic Bridges, HL7 interfaces, FHIR APIs, SMART on FHIR applications, and Epic Web Services.

This role will work independently and collaboratively across clinical, operational, business, and technical teams to design and implement secure, scalable, and maintainable healthcare integration solutions. The position requires strong troubleshooting, stakeholder management, technical documentation, and project leadership capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Interoperability Design & Implementation

• Design, build, test, and support Epic Bridges interfaces using HL7 v2.x standards.
• Configure and implement FHIR APIs, SMART on FHIR applications, and Epic Web Services.
• Gather business and technical requirements and translate them into integration specifications.
• Lead interface design sessions and technical workshops.
• Recommend integration architecture, design improvements, and optimization opportunities.

Application & Production Support

• Provide advanced support for production interfaces and API solutions.
• Troubleshoot complex integration, data quality, workflow, and application issues.
• Perform root-cause analysis and recommend corrective actions.
• Monitor interface performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Participate in on-call support activities when required.

Project Leadership

• Lead interoperability workstreams for implementations, upgrades, enhancements, and strategic initiatives.
• Coordinate with application, infrastructure, security, and vendor teams.
• Manage multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision.
• Facilitate technical decision-making and drive issue resolution.

Documentation & Testing

• Develop and maintain integration specifications, technical documentation, operational procedures, and runbooks.
• Create and execute comprehensive test plans for interfaces, APIs, and interoperability workflows.
• Coordinate testing with technical and operational stakeholders.
• Ensure appropriate change-management and documentation standards are followed.

Subject Matter Expertise

• Serve as a technical SME for Epic Bridges, FHIR APIs, and healthcare interoperability standards.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to analysts and project teams.
• Educate stakeholders on integration capabilities, limitations, and best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or a healthcare-related field.
• 5+ years of healthcare IT experience focused on systems integration and interoperability.
• 3+ years of Epic Bridges experience.
• Experience implementing and supporting HL7 interfaces in production healthcare environments.
• Experience with FHIR APIs and Web Services integrations.
• Experience working with vendors, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
• Advanced system configuration and maintenance experience.
• Experience leading teams and mentoring other staff.

• Strong understanding of:
