Lineage (Nasdaq: LINE) is the world’s largest provider of temperature-controlled logistics solutions, employing over 23.000 colleagues globally, we are well known for our leading market position in temperature-controlled warehousing. In Europa we are located in: The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Spain, UK, Norway. Denmark and Poland.
The role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical ESG Specialist to support the European region's ESG controllership activities, with additional responsibility for risk management and insurance. The core of this role is ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and audit-readiness of ESG data and disclosures under EU regulations such as the EU Taxonomy, the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) — supporting the company's sustainability initiatives and maintaining transparency and compliance as regulatory expectations evolve. Alongside this, the role also coordinates the region's insurance program and risk mitigation activities across Europe.
This role is located in our new Rotterdam regional headquarters office (next to the Rotterdam Central Train Station) and reports directly to the Head of Enterprise Risk and Internal Audit and works in close, with two subject-matter leads on the team: the Global ESG Controller on ESG-related matters, and the Global Insurance & Risk Manager on insurance matters. This role has no direct reports; instead, the role independently owns day-to-day execution across ESG, risk, and insurance for the European region while working collaboratively with the Global Risk Management team. The role also coordinates cross-functionally with Sustainability, Finance, Legal, Operations, Energy, and Procurement. The role suits a candidate with a legal, controllership, financial reporting, or audit background who has since built (or wants to build) expertise in ESG regulatory reporting, with risk and insurance management as a complementary area of responsibility. This blend of skills is well suited to organizations where strong financial-controls and compliance discipline is needed to support audit-ready ESG disclosures as well as insurance program governance.
What you’ll be doing:
- Ensure the completeness and accuracy of ESG data collected from various sources, including internal departments and external partners.
- Support the development and implementation of internal controls and assurance processes for ESG data and reporting, including preparation of audit-ready documentation for disclosures.
- Support the integration of ESG data into financial and regulatory reporting processes, including EU Taxonomy alignment, CSRD (ESRS) disclosures, and CSDDD-related requirements, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
- Prepare audit-ready documentation and support internal and external assurance reviews of ESG disclosures.
- Work closely with sustainability, finance, legal, procurement, operations, and other relevant teams to gather, validate, and document ESG data required for regulatory reporting.
- Act as a regional point of contact on ESG data and disclosure matters, engaging stakeholders at all levels.
- Conduct benchmarking and trend analysis to track progress against ESG targets, regulatory KPIs, and EU Taxonomy alignment, identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Identify opportunities to enhance data collection processes, strengthen controls, and improve the efficiency and auditability of ESG reporting, particularly in response to evolving regulatory requirements.
- Support training and communication efforts to educate employees and stakeholders on ESG data management, controls, and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and support the renewal of locally placed European insurance policies and contribute to global insurance program renewals through preparation of underwriting and renewal documentation.
- Support the identification and assessment of operational, financial, regulatory, and strategic risks across the European region, including ESG-related and climate risk exposures, partnering with cross-functional teams and the Global Risk Management team.
- Coordinate the end-to-end claims process for Europe, including reporting, documentation, tracking, and resolution in collaboration with brokers and external adjusters, and analyze claims trends to identify loss drivers.
- Act as a regional point of contact for insurance matters in Europe, liaising with brokers, insurers, and business stakeholders.
- Prepare and analyze annual insurance-related budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses for the European region, partnering with Finance and Accounting to explain financial drivers and market impacts on insurance costs.
- Support due diligence and risk management (insurance and ESG) for European regional acquisitions.
Who we’re looking for:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business Administration, Paralegal Studies, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent license a plus; understanding of accounting and budgeting.
- Several years of experience in ESG reporting, financial reporting, audit or controllership
- Familiarity with ESG reporting frameworks and EU regulations required, including CSRD (ESRS), EU Taxonomy, and/or CSDDD (experience with GRI, SASB, TCFD also beneficial).
- Exposure to insurance or risk management principles (policy structures, claims processes, loss analysis) is a plus, or a demonstrated ability to acquire this expertise on the job.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in data analysis and reporting.
- Strong communication skills, in English and preferable in Dutch too, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, absent formal people-management authority.
- Attention to detail and a strong commitment to data accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness.
- Passion for sustainability and an interest in supporting compliance with evolving global ESG regulations.
