Salary: $85,000.00 Annually
Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention organization, is seeking an Everytown Labs Fellow. Everytown Labs is an innovation hub within Everytown For Gun Safety Support Fund that accelerates promising technology, including artificial intelligence, to support our gun safety mission.
In this role, the Fellow will contribute to researching new technologies, leveraging AI to surface new insights on gun violence and policies, developing our digital products, and providing technical expertise to the team. Beyond the product work, the Fellow will also drive the appropriate and mission-driven adoption of AI tools and literacy across the organization, and work directly with staff to find and build workflow automations. This position is a unique opportunity to work across the full lifecycle of applied AI: scoping products with real users, building on frontier APIs, and navigating the responsibility questions that come with deploying AI in a high-stakes policy domain.
The fellowship is a 1-year position, designed as an entry-level role for a recent graduate, with supervision from the Senior Director of Everytown Labs and regular exposure to senior members of the Everytown team.
Location: New York City. Hybrid: 3 days/week in office. (The location and hybrid schedule is a strict requirement.)
Timing: 12 month duration from start (November 2026 preferred)
Primary Responsibilities:
You will work closely with members of the Everytown Labs and Everytown Engineering & Analytics teams on various activities to support our work. Some examples:
Support improvements to our existing AI-powered digital products, e.g.
Write code to help upgrade key features
Work on minor bug fixes and enhancements
Document technical specifications and processes
Help with weekly vetting of gun violence data and automating manual processes to keep our AI-powered digital products up-to-date.
Utilize AI to identify, summarize and publish new and interesting findings to our Everytown Labs Insights Center.
Draft blog posts and articles on the intersection of technology and gun safety for our Everytown Labs website.
Work with other Everytown teams on new initiatives involving AI, including new product build for internal and external users.
Support Everytown’s internal cross-organizational “AI Roundtable” working group by designing agendas for meetings, conducting demos of AI tools, and facilitating discussion on responsible AI guidelines.
Partner with our Engineering and Analytics teams to establish and enforce repository organization, branching strategies, and pull request standards across all AI and engineering repos. Standardize dependency management, environment definitions (e.g., Docker, Conda), and configuration settings across existing projects. Create and update technical documentation, including repository READMEs, API specs, and setup guides, to streamline developer onboarding.
Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. computer science.
Experience working with AI coding tools and driving technical projects.
Basic understanding of APIs and how to integrate data sources using API documentation.
Interest in use of AI for mission-driven organizations.
Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good communication skills including experience presenting work to a non-technical audience.
Support for Everytown’s mission to promote firearms safety and reduce gun violence in America.
