The Association of Social Work Boards provides support and services to the social work regulatory community to advance safe, competent, and ethical practices to strengthen public protection. The Examination Development Program Manager manages the day-to-day operations of examination development activities, supervises staff, and coordinates workflows, resources, and program deliverables. In partnership with the Director of Examination Development, this role supports the validity, reliability, security, and continuous improvement of the examination development program. The Examination Development Program Manager serves as a subject matter expert in exam content and examination development and contributes to strategic planning, process improvement, and program quality initiatives. THIS NOT A FULLY REMOTE POSITION . Because this is a hybrid position, preferred candidates will reside in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia, or North Carolina and be able to commute to the office for in-person meetings and team activities two days a week. Program Operations and Oversight Manages end-to-end examination development workflows ​ Supervises, coaches, and develops staff while fostering accountability and collaboration Oversees workflows and deliverables with exam vendors Monitors system functionality, workflow efficiency, and operational quality Ensures examination development activities align with program standards for validity, reliability, security, and quality Manages examination security protocols across office operations and development activities Project Management Supervises project management for examination development initiatives, including annual deliverables, schedules, milestones, and related documentation Oversees cross-functional work to ensure timely, accurate completion of program tasks Evaluates processes and implement improvements that strengthen efficiency, consistency, and quality Meeting and Volunteer Management Coordinates with Examination Development Senior Coordinator to plan, facilitate, and oversee onsite and virtual examination development meetings, including agendas, logistics, materials, and follow-up Supervises preparation and quality review of meeting materials Supervises volunteer engagement, including scheduling, participation tracking, and continuing education credit distribution Maintains working knowledge of item writer programs, examination committees, and form review processes Content Development and Quality Assurance Manages preparation and quality control of examination materials, including items, forms, reference materials, and related documentation Oversees the maintenance and integrity of item banks and examination forms before, during, and after meetings Manages and participates in final functionality reviews before examination publication Assists with development of examination-related products, including study guides and practice examinations Stakeholder Support and Communication Supervises communication to candidate, member, and stakeholder inquiries related to examination programs Escalates complex issues appropriately and monitors follow-through to resolution Prepares reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for internal and external stakeholders Presents to stakeholder groups as requested Research, Analysis, and Continuous Improvement Participates in evaluation of examination development processes and program performance Analyzes workflows and recommends improvements to strengthen effectiveness and efficiency Contributes to strategic initiatives that support program quality and organizational goals ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS Edits and proofreads examination content as needed Supports examination security protocols and investigations Represents the association at professional meetings and conferences as appropriate Performs other duties that support departmental and organizational success ESSENTIAL SKILLS Social work subject matter expertise ​ Ability to supervise, coach, and develop staff while fostering accountability and collaboration Strong organizational, project management, and process management skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and Outlook Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining effective, efficient workflows Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Quality assurance and attention to detail Communication and stakeholder engagement Process improvement, innovation, and analytical thinking Team leadership and supervision Confidentiality and professional integrity JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS (education and experience) Master of Social Work Active social work license in good standing Minimum 2-3 years of experience managing staff Minimum 2-3 years of experience managing projects, and programs or operations Prior exam-related experience preferred Experience working with and managing volunteers preferred Experience editing or proofreading technical, assessment, or examination-related content WORK ENVIRONMENT, TRAVEL AND EXPECTED WORK HOURS ASWB is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace culture that welcomes and appreciates all individuals regardless of race, gender, gender identity/expression, age, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religious affiliation, or national origin and culture.
