Head of CFO Practice | Executive Search
Mid-Market Private Equity | UK & Europe | Hybrid/Remote
We’re working with an established boutique executive search firm to appoint a Head of CFO Practice.
The firm has operated for more than 20 years and has a team of close to 20 people across the UK and Germany.
It works primarily with small and mid-market private equity investors and their portfolio companies, often businesses generating approximately £20m–£200m in annual revenue.
Across five established practice areas, the team appoints Chairs, NEDs, CEOs, CFOs and other senior leaders. Its work spans technology, industrials, professional and financial services, and healthcare, with growing demand for COO, commercial and people leadership appointments.
The firm has deep, long-standing relationships with private equity investors. It is retained by more than 20 firms to connect them with proven executives and non-executives ahead of potential deals, as well as undertaking specific search assignments.
It also brings its network together through regular investor, board and functional leadership events.
The opportunity
Partners currently lead CFO searches alongside their wider C-suite mandates. The firm now wants to build a dedicated CFO practice, led by someone who can deliver excellent searches and develop their own relationships with investors and portfolio company leaders.
You’ll receive CFO mandates from existing partners while building your own pipeline. You’ll have access to an established network, experienced colleagues and technology and infrastructure the firm has invested in heavily. The approach is thorough and relationship-led, with many client partnerships spanning more than a decade.
We’re keen to speak with someone who:
● Has a strong track record placing CFOs into private equity backed businesses.
● Can win work through their relationships with investors, Chairs, CEOs and finance leaders.
● Is equally committed to business development and delivering searches to a high standard.
● Is comfortable working independently and collaborating with partners when it benefits clients.
They have a London office but the team works predominantly from home, with regular opportunities to meet in London, typically around once a month and consultants who are local going in one to two days per week. It suits someone who values autonomy and wants to build a substantial practice without a daily office requirement.
Commission up to 40% of billings. There may also be a longer-term opportunity to participate in the ownership of the business as its succession plans develop.
