Department Overview

IT supports Pacific Gas & Electric’s True North Strategy by improving service quality, increasing capabilities through the development of new functionality, implementing new technology, reducing costs, increasing productivity, and facilitating organizational and business effectiveness through enabling technologies.

The Application Support Team is part of the IT Organization and serves as a centralized group responsible for the support of 300+ applications across PG&E’s IT landscape. Key organization responsibilities include application support and technical development. We are an extension of the Product and Enterprise Solutions Team.

Position Summary

The Expert IT Business Analyst serves as a trusted strategic advisor and primary liaison between business leaders, technical teams, and key stakeholders, translating complex enterprise needs into scalable, high-impact technology solutions. You will lead advanced analysis of business processes, systems, and data; defines comprehensive functional and nonfunctional requirements; and develops detailed specifications for complex initiatives.

Additionally, you will assess feasibility and risk, shape project scope and solution strategy, evaluate and recommend alternatives, prioritize capabilities and deliverables, and validate solutions to ensure alignment with business objectives, technology standards, and long-term organizational goals.

The role is hybrid working from your remote office and in-person at the Oakland (OGO) weekly or based on business needs.

Job Responsibilities

Client Support and Consulting:

  • Provide expert consultation for business and IT stakeholders.
  • Anticipate client concerns and questions, and provide proactive, timely and professional client-focused communications.
  • Provide timely and professional responses to client inquiries or escalate as appropriate.
  • Work with service delivery leads to conduct periodic reviews of all service levels
  • Ability to effectively build cross-discipline relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Analysis of current process and recommendations for process improvements
  • Review design and technical specification documents for alignment with business solutions.
  • Comply with SOX and other standard process requirements.

Application Support Leadership

  • Ability to effectively ensure delivery of vendor services (operations, maintenance and testing) which meet or exceed client requirements
  • Implement, maintain and report on metrics and measures (contractual and other) to ensure clear visibility into the performance of the IT solutions
  • Maintain understanding of provider capabilities
  • Work with providers to define standard processes and tools for all services
  • Evaluate provider recommendations for service changes and improvements
  • Establish performance benchmarking for application portfolio by line of business
  • Maintain comprehensive provider performance reports and communicate updates to SEO and PG&E leadership as needed
  • Work with service delivery leads to conduct periodic reviews of all service levels to ensure alignment with contractual commitments

Other:

  • Communicate IT processes to business clients. Contribute to IT Methodology.
  • May perform various additional activities, such as operation and maintenance support, testing of critical areas of complex applications, etc.
  • Manages vendor relationships and contract renewals for supported third party applications, ensuring alignment with business needs, budget considerations, assesses licensing and usage needs, and service-level expectations.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS in Computer Science/ Information Systems, Business, Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 7 years of job-related experience in Information Technology to include 5 years of business analysis

Desired:

  • Experience managing vendor contracts and renewals for SaaS or third party applications, including coordinating cross functional reviews and ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
  • Able to analyze and design solutions independently with minimal guidance as needed on the most complex projects.
  • Demonstrates understanding of business processes for several business functional areas and can effectively coordinate the work on analysis and requirements for several projects.
  • Detail oriented, analytical, good oral and written communication skills.
  • Serves as key technical resource within the area of specialization.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and technical competence.
  • Demonstrates good understanding of several of the following areas: testing, project management, related Lines of Business, software development, SOX compliance, regulatory compliance, operational/disaster recovery, operations, maintenance, etc.

Compensation

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and the middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E’s discretionary incentive compensation programs.

A reasonable salary range is:

  • Bay Area Minimum: $128,000
  • Bay Area Midpoint: $173,000
  • Bay Area Maximum: $218,000
