Arlington/Roe, a family-owned property/casualty wholesaler and managing general agency since 1964, has an outstanding opportunity for a Farm Underwriter on our Personal Lines team. This opportunity has the ability to work remote.

Summary Job Statement:

This position requires collaboration, underwriting, and relationship building/sales with a willingness to succeed. Ability to further develop our business and market position in the Midwest as an underwriter with production responsibilities will be a priority. The candidate for this position must develop and maintain productive working relationships internally and externally with our agents and insurance carriers.


Education:

Bachelor’s degree preferred.


Qualifications:

· 3 or more years underwriting experience. Farm and Ranch experience is a plus

· Successfully completed or actively pursuing insurance designation: Associate in Underwriting (AU) or Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialists (AFIS)

· Ability to demonstrate decision making authority with limited supervision

· Ability to pay attention to detail, prioritize and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment

· Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills

· Results oriented

· Team player, strong work ethic and willingness to take initiative

· Possess a high level of proficiency using multiple carrier systems, agency management system, Microsoft Office Suite and working in a paperless environment


Essential Functions:

· Evaluate and analyze new business submissions, renewals and endorsements to ensure they meet the carriers’ underwriting guidelines

· Within delegated authority accept, reject or modify new and renewal business to ensure a profitable book of business

· Partner with manager, carriers and state territory managers to profitably manage and grow our book of farm and ranch business

· Build and maintain positive agency relationships via phone calls, emails and agency visits

· Contribute as a leader within the department regarding product knowledge, carrier knowledge and underwriting expertise

· Solid knowledge of technical underwriting and consistently make sound underwriting decisions

· Serve as a resource for internal staff when addressing technical underwriting issues

· Focus on key metrics including but not limited to premium growth, loss ratio, new business hit ratio, and renewal retention ratio

· Train and educate agencies on carriers’ products and underwriting philosophies.

· Performs other duties as assigned
