Field Service Engineer - Tech Lead Associate; (Proton Therapy)- Columbus, Ohio
Job Description/Role and Responsibilities
The Tech Lead Associate position requires a highly motivated individual to ascertain and develop skills to analyze, service and maintain the highly complex and state-of-the-art Proton Particle Accelerator, delivering the best system performance to our customers. The individual’s performance will be tracked against defined goals ensuring their development and growth. The Tech Lead Associate will need to partner heavily with Site Technical leader to obtain the knowledge and experience to fulfill the position.
The Tech Lead Associates is responsible for the following:
- Ability to grow into a Shift Leader or Technical Area Leader that requires very little supervision.
- Encompasses a high degree of professionalism, technical knowledge, and a safety-first mindset, which is applied to all work activities.
- Advances into a technical leader that can coach new and less experienced engineers in Clinical Operations, System Operation, and Technical Subject Matter – including the new product offerings.
- Assimilate how to utilize available software data sources for data driven decisions to integrate corrective and preventative actions to improve reliability and performance.
- Acquire skill sets to meet key performance indicators for the business.
- Ascertain knowledge of system issues and perform in-depth system analysis for complex repairs and system optimization.
- Learn to identify and understand the functionality of major parts and sub-assemblies and effectively convey this to others.
- Basic skill sets to work on state-of-the-art hardware and software, PCs, and networking/wireless networking.
- Able to learn and then perform skills necessary to perform installations and upgrades of a wide range of complex and advanced company products according to technical documentation and company guidelines to ensure that customers’ equipment operates efficiently.
- Acquire knowledge and skills to manage manpower scheduling and business demands,
- Learn to manage service escalations, management notifications, and customer communications and updates.
- Acquire and demonstrate presentation skills for customer, internal associates, and vendor meetings.
- Acquire and demonstrate presentation skills to deliver compelling, engaging, informative, transformative, educational, customer and/or instructive presentations.
- Learn to act as the technical point of contact for support groups, i.e., Product Support Engineering, Software Engineering, Manufacturing, etc. for site issues or continuous product/process improvement.
- Acquire knowledge and skills necessary for the scheduling and management of Service Technical Bulletins and PMs per the Site’s PM plan and regulatory requirements.
- Learn to deliver customer-centric solutions and provides highly visible customer support and assistance with system fundamentals and operation.
- Ascertain the ability to create shift assignments for the team and provides detailed work instructions as necessary.
- Participate in educational activities to enhance an understanding of FDA medical device compliance, site quality management system and corrective and preventative actions.
- Become skilled in the use of internal software applications for both the business and Proton System such as Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Salesforce, Siemens PLC GUI, and Varian Treatment Control applications.
- Learn to proactively recognize potential risks and failures of the system. Acknowledge the problem, collect evidence, determine when to escalate for assistance.
- Able to work in a highly dynamic environment, which requires the Tech Lead Associate to work a flex shift schedule per the following:
- 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift Schedule, 8 hrs./day
- Compressed Work Week Schedule, 10 or 12 hrs./day or night, 3 or 4 days per week.
- Rotating Weekends
- May be expected to travel up to 30% of the time.
Minimum Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional experience with high voltage.
- Experienced in reading and navigating through complex system schematics and drawings.
- Electronic and electro-mechanical engineering experience.
- Professional experience with micro-computers/PC-based systems/PLCs
- Experienced with precision tools and diagnostic equipment
- i.e. Calipers, Torque Wrench, DVMs, Oscilloscopes, Drills, Soldering, etc.)
Other Desired Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience or knowledge of imaging systems/X-Rays.
- Experience or knowledge of Radio Frequency (RF).
- Experience or knowledge with High vacuum.
- Experience or knowledge with Vacuum leak checks/detection
- Experience or knowledge Electro-magnetic field
- Experience or knowledge of the maintenance of calibrated electronic and/or mechanical equipment.
- Experience or knowledge of MATLAB and Twin SAFE software.
- Experience or knowledge of Robot technology fundamentals
- Experience or knowledge of Cryogenics fundamentals
Education/Experience:
Associate degree or equivalent 3 - 5 years of related experience in the high-tech industry or military.

The base pay range for this position is:
$67,550 - $92,884Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.

Position must have full access to Siemens Healthineers' client sites to perform the essential functions of this position.
