At National Gas, the work we do matters.

As Britain's national gas network, we help keep the lights on, businesses running, and homes warm by maintaining the critical infrastructure that transports gas across Great Britain. While providing the energy security Britain relies on today, we're also helping transform the network for a clean energy future.

Join us and help secure Britain's energy.

About the role:

Do you have a genuine interest in engineering and major infrastructure projects? If so, this is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Finance Business Partner to play a pivotal role in supporting the successful delivery of National Gas' Major Programmes investment portfolio. Working across some of our most significant, high-profile and technically complex engineering projects, you will provide financial insight, analysis and strategic guidance to support investment decisions across a diverse range of programmes. Operating within an established governance framework, you will deliver senior-level challenge, leadership and decision support, influencing outcomes across a complex programme environment and a broad range of stakeholders.

Key accountabilities:

  • Act as a trusted senior finance partner to Major Programmes project and leadership teams, providing constructive challenge, clear recommendations and financial leadership to support strategic objectives and financial targets.
  • Build strong relationships across Major Programmes, proactively engaging stakeholders to understand priorities, shape decisions and support effective resource allocation.
  • Lead the finance input into key business decisions, bringing together financial and regulatory considerations and translating complex issues into clear, practical actions.
  • Deputise for the Senior Finance Business Partner - Major Programmes where required and lead, allocate work to and support one direct report, including objective setting, performance management, development and recruitment where required.
  • Lead and coordinate the development of robust financial plans, budgets and forecasts for Major Programmes investment and capital project delivery.
  • Provide forward-looking analysis of financial performance, identifying underlying drivers, risks and opportunities and ensuring these are clearly understood and acted upon by senior stakeholders.
  • Apply an understanding of the regulatory framework so plans, forecasts and investment reporting appropriately reflect regulatory allowances, outputs, commitments and performance drivers.
  • Prepare and present clear, insightful financial reporting to senior management and key stakeholders, focusing attention on the decisions and actions required.
  • Maintain oversight of Major Programmes financial performance, challenging assumptions, driving corrective action and supporting delivery of financial and regulatory outcomes.
  • Develop financial models and undertake scenario and sensitivity analysis to support investment decisions, project economics, cost optimisation, risk management and alternative delivery scenarios.

About you:

  • Fully qualified CIMA, ACCA or ACA with significant post-qualification experience in finance business partnering, programme finance or financial analysis, with a strong track record of operating with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing constructive challenge, supporting decisions and turning complex financial information into clear recommendations.
  • Experience of line managing, supervising or developing an employee, including allocating work, setting objectives and supporting performance and development.
  • Ability to move seamlessly between strategic planning and detailed analysis, understanding the links and interactions between the two.
  • Confidence operating with ambiguity and making sound judgements where information is incomplete.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the credibility to influence senior financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting major projects or a complex investment environment.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of economic regulation or experience working in a regulated business.
  • Experience of regulatory investment planning, reporting or performance frameworks.

What we can offer you:

  • Competitive salary, dependant on experience
  • Market-leading double-match pension (for every £1 you add, we add £2)
  • Annual performance bonus (up to 15%)
  • 28 days holiday plus 8 statutory days and option to buy 5 additional days
  • 10x salary life assurance and income protection
  • Flexible opt-in salary sacrifice benefits including private healthcare, car, dental, and technology schemes
  • Family-friendly policies, wellbeing support, and professional development opportunities

Inclusive recruitment:

We're building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve, championing diversity, and creating an inclusive workplace where everyone is valued for their unique contribution. We support reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process and beyond.
