Show job description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

  • Lead segment performance insight and decision support across Qantas Airlines, managing a team of three.
  • Turn operational and financial performance into clear recommendations that influence executive decisions and drive commercial outcomes.
  • 12-month fixed term, full-time role based at Mascot HQ.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, Planning and Performance, you'll lead commercial insight and decision support for Qantas Airlines and manage a team of three Senior Financial Analysts. Working alongside Business Unit Heads of Finance, Financial Controllers and commercial stakeholders, you'll connect operational and financial performance, identify what matters and tell a clear, forward-looking view that enables leaders to act.

This is a highly visible role with the opportunity to shape decisions across the airline. You'll move beyond reporting what happened to explain why it matters, frame the choices ahead and help senior leaders convert insight into measurable commercial outcomes.

What you'll deliver

  • Own the segment commercial performance view for Qantas Airlines, translating financial and operational drivers into a clear performance outlook and recommended actions.
  • Surface forward-looking opportunities, risks, and shape commercial responses that improve balanced scorecard outcomes.
  • Translate complex analysis into simple, influential executive communication tailored to the decision and audience.
  • Lead and continuously improve planning and performance cycles to strengthen their quality, pace and commercial value, enabling better decisions and stronger accountability for outcomes.
  • Lead and develop three Senior Financial Analysts, while working cross-functionally across finance teams to align priorities, coordinate activity and strengthen collaboration.

What you'll bring

  • 8+ years in FP&A, commercial finance or finance business partnering, with a track record of converting complex financial and operational information into insights that influence senior decisions and improve business outcomes.
  • Experience leading and developing a team, including setting priorities and holding the quality bar on what the team delivers.
  • Strong driver-based forecasting and modelling capability, with the judgement to separate the variances that matter from the noise.
  • A track record of influencing senior leaders, constructively challenging assumptions and moving discussions from analysis to action.
  • Experience partnering with operational business units in a large, complex organisation, navigating multiple stakeholders, interdependencies and competing priorities.
  • CA or CPA qualified or equivalent, with tertiary qualifications in finance, commerce or a related discipline.
