About Us

At Tempcover, we believe insurance should never slow you down. Especially during life’s most unexpected moments. We offer fast, flexible temporary insurance with no long-term commitment: temporary car insurance, short-term van insurance and learner driver insurance.

We’ve helped over 4 million drivers get on the road, and we’re just getting into gear. We’re now growing our team for the next phase of our journey. If you’ve got the drive to match and want to help shape the future of driving and insurance, we’d love to hear from you.

  • We create value in everything we do, for customers and our business.
  • We push boundaries, staying miles ahead of the game.
  • We win together, backing each other to do our best work.

What’s the Role?

We are looking for a commercially driven, strategic Finance Director to act as a primary business partner to the Tempcover CEO and Leadership Team. In this role, you will be the commercial engine of our financial strategy, shaping growth initiatives, optimising unit economics, and leading a dynamic team of 6 to support our next phase of rapid scale.

As a key member of the executive team, you will blend strategic vision with high-pace execution. You will act as a critical friend to senior leaders across Tech, Marketing, and Underwriting, ensuring our growth plans are both ambitious and financially robust. While overseeing our finance operations and regulatory framework, your primary impact will be navigating commercial strategy, guiding FP&A, and driving business performance.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Strategic & Commercial Partnership: Partner closely with the CEO and senior leadership to evaluate new growth channels, optimise commercial performance, and drive value creation across the business.
  • Financial Strategy & FP&A Ownership: Lead overall financial planning, multi-year forecasting, scenario modelling, and commercial decision-support, guiding our Commercial Finance Lead to deliver deep business insights.
  • Executive Communication & Board Readiness: Translate complex financial drivers into clear strategic narratives for the CEO, Board, parent company (Zephyr), and external stakeholders/investors.
  • Team Leadership & Performance: Lead an established 6-person finance team, building a culture of high performance, accountability, and professional development.
  • Strategic Governance & Enterprise Risk: Provide executive oversight over our financial control environment, regulatory compliance (FCA/Consumer Duty), and legal risk, ensuring the business scales safely without compromising speed.

What We're Looking For

  • Commercial & Strategic Leadership: A qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience driving commercial strategy and financial performance in a fast-paced Tech, FinTech, or scale-up environment.
  • Proven Business Partnering: Strong ability to challenge and collaborate with non-finance executives (Marketing, Tech, Product) and articulate the financial drivers behind business performance.
  • Investor & Board Presence: Confident communicator capable of handling high-level strategic questioning from investors, board members, and external advisors.
  • Empowering People Leader: Experience managing and developing finance professionals, with a track record of coaching team members and driving organisational maturity.
  • Pragmatic Governance: Sound understanding of operating within regulated or structured environments, with the ability to balance robust risk management with commercial agility.

What We Offer

  • 10% discretionary yearly bonus and yearly pay reviews (based on company and personal performance)
  • A hybrid working approach with 2 in-office days per week and up to 22 working days per year to “work from anywhere”
  • Employer matching pension contributions up to 7.5%
  • A one-off £300 “work from home” budget to help contribute towards a great work environment at home
  • Excellent maternity, paternity, shared parental, and adoption leave policy, for those key moments in your life
  • 25 days holiday (increasing with years of employment to 30 days) + 2 days “my time” per year
  • Private medical cover, critical illness cover, and employee assistance programme
  • A healthy learning and training budget
  • Electric vehicle and cycle to work schemes
  • Regular events - from team socials to company-wide events with insightful external speakers, we want to make sure our colleagues continue to feel connected.
