Position Summary

The Finance Manager leads AMC’s volunteer finance operations and related financial reporting and administers banking activities under the direction of the Controller. Serving as the primary finance liaison for volunteer units, including chapters, camps, and Adventure Travel, this role safeguards financial integrity through budgeting, reporting, audit coordination, and financial systems support. The Finance Manager exercises independent judgment within established policies and delegated authority, guides and trains volunteer treasurers and staff, supervises finance support staff, and addresses emerging operational, financial, systems, and compliance needs.

What you’ll be doing at AMC

Volunteer Finance Support

  • Serve as the primary finance liaison for all volunteer units, partnering with volunteer treasurers and Volunteer Engagement staff to address financial, operational, and compliance needs.
  • Guide volunteer treasurers on financial policies, procedures, budgets, investments, banking requirements, grant activity, donation management, reporting, and compliance with AMC’s Volunteer Finance & Administration Manual.
  • Coordinate and facilitate quarterly meetings with chapter and camp volunteer treasurers and other finance-related communications.
  • Lead the annual volunteer unit budgeting process, including guidance, submission review, and feedback.
  • Coordinate and perform the annual volunteer unit audits.
  • Maintain quarterly investment reports for endowment funds and annual chapter cash analyses.
  • Coordinate requests related to invested reserve funds and transfers.
  • Monitor donation activity and related payout reporting.
  • Coordinate the billing and remittance of intercompany financial transactions between the volunteer units and central operations.

Banking & Cash Management

  • Under the direction of the Controller, administer delegated banking relationships and related functions across multiple financial institutions and financial platforms.
  • Oversee banking and credit card services for volunteer units, ensuring they meet operational needs and comply with AMC policies and procedures.
  • Serve as administrator for banking and payment systems.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting for banking inquiries from staff and volunteers.

Accounting Operations and Financial Reporting

  • Oversee Pinkham Notch Visitor Center accounting operations supporting AMC’s New Hampshire lodges and huts.
  • Oversee non-grant accounts receivable, including invoicing, collections, aging, and delinquent-account follow-up.
  • Record and reconcile revenue from multiple payment platforms and fundraising systems.
  • Support monthly and annual close and the financial statement audit through journal entries, reconciliations, and related schedules.
  • Prepare financial reports for management, volunteers, auditors, and other stakeholders.
  • Administer financial applications and banking platforms, including user access, onboarding, training, and ongoing support.
  • Monitor finance email accounts and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Provide financial and operational support for special initiatives and cross-functional business needs, including analysis, reporting, research, and troubleshooting.

Leadership and Supervision

  • Lead and develop team members by setting clear expectations, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, conducting performance evaluations, and strengthening technical and analytical capabilities to advance organizational priorities.
  • Foster a collaborative, transparent, and accountable team culture that promotes continuous improvement in efficiency, accuracy, and communication.

Systems, Process Improvement, and Operational Support

  • Support digital transformation initiatives, under the direction of IT; implement new financial tools, banking services, and reporting enhancements.
  • Maintain and improve financial procedures, documentation, and finance manuals while identifying opportunities to strengthen efficiency and operational effectiveness.
  • Support the Finance department and other departments with emerging priorities and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What AMC is Looking For:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
  • 3-5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience; nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Experience in banking administration, treasury functions, and credit card platforms.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency and experience with a major accounting system; Sage Intacct preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong service orientation and the ability to guide volunteers and staff with varying levels of financial and systems experience.
  • Ability to collaborate across Volunteer Engagement, Information Technology, Finance, and operational teams to resolve issues and advance shared priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to changing business needs.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

What AMC Can Offer You

Salary: $68,685 - $87,058

The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
