We are looking for candidates pursuing, or recently graduated from, a master’s or PhD programme to assist the Financial Sector and Market Analysis division within the Chief Economist’s department of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). The Financial Sector and Market Analysis division plays a key role in the design and implementation of analytical tools that support the ESM’s mandate. The team provides financial stability risk analysis at both euro area and country level, as well as technical advice on regulatory and policy matters related to the euro area financial sector and its member states. It monitors financial sector developments and market activity of both bank and non-bank financial institutions, along with related indicators. It also supports country monitoring with financial sector analysis and assists other divisions in responding to financial assistance requests by assessing potential financing needs and sectoral weaknesses relevant to conditionality setting. PURPOSE OF THE TRAINEESHIP This role will provide the opportunity to acquire practical experience and knowledge of the day-to-day work of the different business areas within a multilingual and multicultural environment. You will be introduced to the professional world and the constraints, duties, and opportunities therein. While working closely with experienced professionals you will gain hands-on experience and develop skills in applied economic analysis, data analysis, and modelling. You will be assigned to ongoing analytical projects, including a novel workstream to deepen the analysis of macro-financial linkages, and will support the team in collecting, cleaning, and analysing data. Your colleagues within the institution will assist you in your duties and offer opportunities to interact with external stakeholders. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Assist in compiling, managing, and analysing large macro-and microeconomic datasets. Code to extract, transform, and load data from various data sources. Support in conducting econometric analysis. Assist in presenting findings in internal notes, presentations, or seminars. EDUCATION AND OTHER RELEVANT EXPERIENCE Candidate for or recent graduate (under one year since graduation) holding a master’s degree in data science, statistics, finance, economics, or a related field. PhD students must be within a year or two of completing a PhD and hold active student status within the aforementioned fields. Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required.
