OVERVIEW
The Financial Systems Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day administration, configuration, and financial integrity of the organization's NetSuite ERP environment, which serves as the core accounting system of record, as well as the financial systems and integrations that connect to it. This role is grounded first in accounting: the ideal candidate understands the general ledger, subledgers, the month-end close cycle, and reconciliation processes well enough to configure, troubleshoot, and safeguard NetSuite and its connected systems around those workflows. Being a technical NetSuite administrator remains the core of this role.
The successful applicant will have a hybrid work arrangement and must reside within a 125-mile radius of our NY headquarters in the financial district. The starting salary range for the position is $99,500 - $105,500. This role is eligible for an incentive opportunity targeting 10% of annual salary.
Named one of the 50 best nonprofits to work for by the Non-Profit Times, our employees enjoy rewarding careers in a fast-paced, results-driven environment. We offer a competitive compensation package, including incentives. Eligible employees also participate in a comprehensive benefits program that includes medical, dental, orthodontia, vision coverage, a student loan repayment program, a 403(b) retirement plan with substantial company match, discounted pet insurance, and generous paid-time-off benefits.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Serve as the primary administrator of NetSuite, owning configuration of the chart of accounts, subsidiaries, accounting periods, roles/permissions, and core financial records.
- Apply working knowledge of accounting fundamentals (GL, AP, AR, subledgers, accruals, journal entries) to configure and troubleshoot NetSuite in a way that preserves financial data integrity.
- Perform or oversee reconciliations between NetSuite and subledgers, bank/payment platforms, and other financial systems; identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage user access, roles, and permissions within NetSuite in line with segregation-of-duties and audit requirements.
- Build and maintain Saved Searches, SuiteQL queries, and reports.
- Act as the internal technical lead for NetSuite projects: scope enhancements, evaluation options (internal build vs. consultant build), and coordinate delivery with internal and external stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot NetSuite issues, defects, and user support requests, including root-cause analysis for financial transaction discrepancies across integrated platforms.
- Oversee or contribute to integrations between NetSuite and third-party systems (banking, payment, and disbursement platforms) via REST APIs, middleware, or file-based processes.
- Own other financial system integrations beyond NetSuite, including but not limited to Stripe, serving as the primary point of accountability for their configuration, reliability, and issue resolution.
- Progressively build skills and capability in NetSuite development (SuiteScript 2.1, SuiteCloud Development Framework) to reduce reliance on outside consultants over time; this is a growth area rather than a day-one requirement.
- Support change-management practices for NetSuite feature enhancements, including source control and controlled promotion across sandbox, UAT, and production.
- Document system configurations, reconciliation procedures, and technical solutions to support audit readiness and knowledge continuity.
- Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Information Services, and Operations stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into system configuration or technical solutions.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field. 1-2 years of experience administering an accounting system in a finance or accounting function, including exposure to month-end closing and account reconciliation. Prior hands-on NetSuite administration experience is required; NetSuite development experience (SuiteScript, SDF) is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- 1-2 years of experience with core accounting concepts: general ledger structure, debits/credits, accruals, journal entries, and subledger-to-GL relationships.
- 1-2 years of experience with NetSuite administration: roles/permissions, custom records, workflows, saved searches, and system configuration.
- 1-2 years of experience with reading and interpreting financial data to identify discrepancies, trends, and control gaps.
