GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF ROLE:
Leads the FinOps (Cloud Financial Operations) practice for Aon's global technology organization from India, driving cloud cost visibility, accountability, and optimization across engineering and finance teams worldwide. Owns the FinOps operating model, tooling, and governance cadence, embedding cost-conscious decision-making into the software delivery lifecycle globally.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities of this role include:
- Define and own the FinOps strategy, operating model, and roadmap for Aon's global technology function, aligned to the FinOps Foundation's Crawl-Walk-Run maturity model
- Establish showback/chargeback models, budgets, forecasts, and unit-economics reporting across cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP), SaaS, and data center spend
- Drive adoption of the FOCUS (FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification) schema for standardized, multi-cloud cost reporting
- Lead a cross-functional FinOps council spanning engineering, finance, and procurement to review spend, anomalies, and savings initiatives
- Identify and prioritize cost optimization opportunities (rightsizing, reserved/committed-use discounts, storage tiering, idle-resource elimination)
- Own FinOps tooling selection, configuration, and reporting cadence (e.g., CloudHealth, Cloudability, Apptio, native cloud cost tools)
- Mentor and manage FinOps Engineers; set team goals and development plans
- Present cost trends, savings achieved, and forecast accuracy to senior leadership
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Finance, or a related field; MBA a plus
- 8+ years in cloud infrastructure, IT finance, or technology operations, with 3+ years in a dedicated FinOps or cloud cost management leadership role
- FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) or FinOps Certified Professional certification required, or willingness to obtain within 6 months
- Hands-on experience with at least one hyperscaler's billing and cost management tools (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar cloud budgets in a large enterprise setting.
Technical Skills
- FOCUS schema and multi-cloud cost data normalization
- Cloud billing/cost tools: AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, GCP Billing, CloudHealth, Cloudability, Apptio
- Data analysis/BI: SQL, Excel, Power BI/Looker/Tableau for cost dashboards
- Reserved Instance / Savings Plan / Committed Use Discount strategy
- Budgeting, forecasting, and unit-economics modeling
- Vendor and contract negotiation support
