Applications are invited for postdoctoral Flatiron Research Fellowships (FRF) at the Center for Computational Mathematics (CCM), in the Flatiron Institute, a division of the Simons Foundation. The mission of the Flatiron Institute is to advance scientific research through computational methods, including data analysis, theory, modeling and simulation. CCM has around 50 members, including scientists at career stages from recent Ph.D.s through to senior scientists, software engineers, support staff, and visitors. A major goal of the center is to develop the next generation of simulation and analysis methods, and to make them available to the scientific community through collaboration and software development. The center offers an unusually interdisciplinary environment in comparison to traditional academic departments. We seek FRF applicants in all of our active areas of research:

• numerical analysis, especially the areas of partial differential equations, integral equations, fast algorithms, spectral and high-order methods


• machine learning, especially the areas of optimization, learning theory, probabilistic modeling, deep learning, high-dimensional data analysis, and scientific applications


• statistical methodology, modeling, and inference


• computational biophysics and imaging, including cryo-electron microscopy, molecular dynamics, and structural biology


• high performance computing and open source software libraries

FRF positions are initially two-year appointments, renewable for a third year contingent on performance. Fellows will be based, and have a principal office or workspace, at the Simons Foundation’s offices in New York City. This is an onsite (not remote) position, but does allow one day per week working from home. Fellows may also be eligible for subsidized housing within walking distance of the Flatiron Institute. The anticipated start date is between July 2027 and October 2027.

Flatiron Research Fellows are mentored by one or more CCM research scientists. They are also encouraged to carry out an independent research program, to collaborate across the various FI centers and/or SF initiatives, to participate in the institute’s and center’s vibrant activities such as seminars, tutorials, workshops, and conferences, and to mentor students through our summer internship program. They are expected to disseminate their results through scientific publication, conferences/seminars, and possibly open-source software production. Fellows receive a generous travel and research budget, and have access to the institute’s powerful scientific computing resources.

The other computational centers at the institute focus on astrophysics, biology, quantum physics, neuroscience and catalysis. CCM has many collaborations with these centers, and some FRF positions may be joint between CCM and another center. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• The full-time annual compensation for this position is $95,000

• Applications for available positions that begin in 2027 will be reviewed beginning in late Fall 2026 and considered on a rolling basis until the positions are filled. For full consideration, applications, including letters of reference, should be received by November 15, 2026.
