Role Description The Mentor (NGO) will provide guidance, support, and encouragement to program participants, helping them develop leadership skills, confidence, and practical strategies for personal and community development. This full-time remote role involves conducting regular mentoring sessions (online or phone), setting goals with mentees, and tracking progress against individual development plans. The Mentor will collaborate with Wendi staff to design and refine mentorship activities, contribute to training materials, and participate in virtual workshops or group sessions. Day-to-day responsibilities include documenting mentoring interactions, preparing brief reports, identifying additional resources or referrals for mentees, and sharing insights to improve program quality. The Mentor will uphold Wendi’s values of empowerment, inclusion, and respect, and foster a safe, supportive environment for all participants.
Qualifications
- Mentoring and coaching skills, with experience supporting youth or community members in personal and professional development.
- Strong communication and active listening abilities, including clear written and spoken English and culturally sensitive interaction.
- Basic digital literacy and comfort using remote collaboration tools (video conferencing, messaging platforms, online documents).
- Knowledge or interest in community development, education, leadership, or social impact work, preferably in an NGO or non-profit context.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Demonstrated empathy, reliability, and commitment to empowerment, equity, and inclusive practices.
- Relevant education in social sciences, education, community development, psychology, or a related field is beneficial but not strictly required.
- Prior experience in Uganda or similar contexts, and familiarity with local challenges and opportunities, is an added advantage.
