Founding Engineer, Video & Computer Vision Algorithms (Students or Recent Grads are welcome, Hybrid, Tallinn)

Areal Vision turns ordinary footage into true-scale 3D scenes you can walk through, measure, and plan from.

We began as a volunteer OSINT team supporting Ukraine's intelligence efforts. Today we have a working beta with active users, generating 3D scenes in the cloud and placing them on a map in a full-stack web app. Our founding team moved from the US and Canada to Tallinn in August 2026, backed by pre-seed funding from US-based NetworkVC and angel investors.

We are growing our team, starting with two founding engineers, to accelerate deployment to the frontline when it is needed most.

The role: Traditional 3D mapping relies on planned survey flights and specialist equipment. We rebuild real places from whatever video exists, including shaky, low-quality footage. Our beta pipeline already does this. Making it fast, accurate, and reliable at scale is still an unsolved problem, and you'll lead the work on it.

You'll own the algorithms that turn raw footage into accurate 3D scenes. That includes frame selection, camera pose estimation, reconstruction, and detection and tracking, plus making scenes faster to build and light enough to stream. You'll work directly with the founders, engineers, advisors, and users, taking ideas from research prototype to production.

Core requirements:

(Personal, class, work, and volunteer projects all count)

— Computer vision experience, such as object detection (CNNs, YOLO), classical and deep learning methods, and motion detection or tracking

— Experience running workloads on cloud compute

— Proficiency in Python and Git

— Effective use of AI tools, while fully understanding, documenting, and owning the code you ship

— A bachelor's degree, or graduation within 12 months (equivalent experience without a degree is also considered)

Nice to have:

— Strongly preferred: a working understanding of GPUs, rendering, and shaders (game modding counts) — Experience with video or photo to 3D technologies, such as Gaussian Splatting, NeRF, WebODM, photogrammetry, or mesh reconstruction

— Experience with WebGL or WebGPU

— Experience building applications or systems with mapping technologies (tiles, layers, streaming)

Availability

— Start immediately, in September or October 2026

— At least 20 hours/week for the first 6 months, then at least 32 hours/week

— Full-time from day one is preferred

Eligibility and language

— You have the right to work in Estonia, or can get it before you start, such as EU, EEA, and Swiss citizens, Ukrainian citizens eligible for temporary protection, or holders of an Estonian residence permit that allows work (remote start possible while relocating)

— Final candidates will go through a background check, since we build defense technology

— English at B2 level or higher is required, since all work and documentation are in English. Certification is not necessary.

— Estonian or Ukrainian language skills are strongly preferred, since we work closely with users in Ukraine and Estonia
