Who we are
At MediaKind, we’ve reshaped the future of streaming video.
As the world’s largest independent video technology company, and the leader in sports streaming, we power the most ambitious and demanding video experiences on the planet.
Our cloud-native, software-defined solutions help the world’s leading streamers and broadcasters build, deploy and scale premium video experiences. Its MK.IO platform helps customers launch and scale streaming services. Finance supports a business that mixes software subscriptions, usage-based cloud services, licenses, and professional and managed services, so revenue and delivery cost do not follow one simple pattern.
If you're excited by solving complex challenges, working alongside talented colleagues around the world, and helping shape the future of video, we'd love to build what's next together.
Position Overview
We are looking for an FP&A Analyst to own revenue and cost of goods sold (COGS) forecasting, reporting and analysis. You will be the person the business turns to for an accurate answer on what we will bill, what it will cost to deliver, and what margin that leaves. The role sits in Finance and works daily with Sales, Operations and Customer Delivery.
This is a hands-on analyst role. You will help build and maintain the models, reconcile them to the general ledger, and explain the movements to non-finance leaders in plain language.
Key responsibilities
Revenue
- Build and maintain the monthly, quarterly and annual revenue forecast by division, customer and revenue type (subscription, usage, license, services, support).
- Combine closed actuals, invoiced and to-be-invoiced orders, and the sales pipeline into one view of revenue by period.
- Track backlog and open orders, flag slippage, and quantify the revenue impact of deal timing changes.
- Analyze revenue versus budget, forecast and prior year, and write the variance commentary: volume, price, mix and timing.
- Support revenue recognition review with Accounting, including checks on contract terms and billing schedules.
COGS and gross margin
- Forecast and report COGS split between direct costs (hosting, third-party licenses, royalties, delivery and support labour) and indirect costs allocated to delivery.
- Calculate gross margin by division, customer and project, and highlight where margin is falling and why.
- Maintain the mapping of general ledger accounts to revenue and COGS categories so reporting stays consistent.
- Partner with Operations and Engineering on cloud and vendor cost drivers, and model the margin effect of pricing, contract and architecture changes.
- Build customer and deal-level margin analysis to support pricing and renewal decisions.
Reporting and close
- Run the monthly gross margin close: refresh the GL data, reconcile to the ledger, and confirm summaries tie out.
- Produce the revenue and COGS pages of the monthly management pack and board reporting.
- Support budget and reforecast cycles with accurate, well-documented assumptions.
Partnering and improvement
- Meet regularly with Sales, Customer Delivery and Operations to challenge assumptions and explain results.
- Answer ad hoc questions from the CFO and leadership team with clear, fast analysis.
- Document models and processes and automate repeat reporting so the team spends time on analysis, not on rebuilding spreadsheets.
Requirements
- 3 or more years in FP&A, financial analysis or a similar finance role.
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field. Relevant experience will also be considered.
- Direct experience forecasting revenue and analyzing gross margin or COGS.
- Advanced Excel: lookups, pivot tables, multi-tab models, and the discipline to make every total tie out. Comfortable with large general ledger exports.
- Working knowledge of an ERP such as Oracle, and of a CRM such as HubSpot or Salesforce.
- Clear written and spoken communication. You can explain a variance to a sales director without jargon.
- Strong attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work before anyone else sees it.
Nice to have
- SQL, Power BI, Tableau or similar for reporting and dashboards.
- Experience with planning tools such as Adaptive, Anaplan or Planful.
- Python or other scripting to automate recurring reporting.
- Experience with cloud cost reporting (AWS, Azure or Google Cloud) and usage-based billing.
- Exposure to multi-currency reporting and intercompany allocations.
- Experience with Ai Tools
