Gyansys is looking for a hands-on Databricks Platform Administrator to join our data and cloud services team on a freelance basis. You'll own the day-to-day administration of a US client's Databricks platform on AWS.
What You'll Do
Platform Administration
- Administer Databricks workspaces on AWS, including setup, configuration, upgrades and day-to-day operations
- Manage clusters, SQL warehouses, cluster policies, pools, jobs and runtime versions
- Manage users, groups, service principals and permissions, including SSO/SCIM integration
- Administer Unity Catalog: metastores, catalogs, schemas, access controls and data lineage
AWS Infrastructure & Security
- Manage the AWS resources behind Databricks, including VPCs, subnets, security groups, IAM roles and policies, S3 buckets and KMS keys
- Configure secure networking such as PrivateLink and VPC peering, and secure credential and secret management
- Enforce security, compliance and data access standards across the platform
Monitoring, Support & Incident Resolution
- Monitor platform health, performance and job reliability, and troubleshoot issues before they escalate
- Provide support for incidents and service requests during US business hours (8 AM – 5 PM ET)
- Take part in the on-call roster and join P1/P2 incident calls
- Work with data engineers, analysts and cloud teams on platform changes and enhancements
Cost Optimization & Automation
- Track and optimize Databricks and AWS spend through cluster policies, autoscaling, tagging and usage reporting
- Automate provisioning and configuration with Terraform, the Databricks CLI/REST APIs and scripting in Python or Bash
- Support CI/CD for platform configuration and workspace assets
Documentation
- Maintain platform documentation, runbooks, standards and troubleshooting guides
Skills Needed
- 5+ years of experience in cloud or data platform administration, with at least 3 years administering Databricks
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS
- Deep knowledge of Databricks workspace administration, cluster management and Unity Catalog
- Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred) and scripting (Python, Bash)
- Understanding of Apache Spark, Delta Lake and data engineering workloads
- Familiarity with identity management (SSO, SCIM, Okta or Azure AD/Entra ID)
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Language: Professional English proficiency required

- Type: Freelance / independent contractor
- Hours: 40 hours per week, provide operational support during US business hours (8 AM – 5 PM EST)
- Location: 100% remote. You must be based in a LATAM country.
