Freelance Interior Designer
PECBORAPECBORA, a Sydney-based relocation and home setup business, is looking to connect with talented Interior Design students, recent graduates and emerging designers for paid, project-based freelance opportunities.
Position: Freelance Interior Designer
Engagement: Project-based / Freelance
Location: Remote
Project Rate: AUD $300–$600 per project
We’re looking for creative designers who can translate individual client preferences into practical, thoughtful and well-considered interior concepts.
Our clients may have very different tastes and requirements, so we value designers who are versatile, attentive to detail and able to adapt their approach from one project to another.
🏡 Design Direction & Inspiration
Our design inspiration includes Shea McGee and New Heritage-style interiors, alongside contemporary interiors incorporating -
• Warm, earthy colour palettes
• Bold-statement furniture
• Refined layering of textures
• Vintage and heritage influences
• Defined, intentional spaces rather than exclusively open-plan layouts
• Handcrafted and artisanal details
• Personalised, story-driven interiors
• Curves and sculptural forms
• Natural and sustainable materials
These are areas of particular interest rather than limitations on style. We welcome designers with different creative strengths and will match projects according to the client’s preferred aesthetic and the designer’s individual capabilities.
✏️ Key Responsibilities
Depending on the project, responsibilities may include -
• Creating mood boards and interior design concepts
• Working with floor plans, dimensions and furniture placement
• Producing 3D renders using software of your choice
• Sourcing furniture, lighting, décor and other items
• Preparing an organised document with links to all products used
• Ensuring sourced products are available and can be shipped to Australia within a reasonable timeframe
• Providing suitable alternatives quickly when products are unavailable, delayed or unsuitable
• Understanding and balancing different preferences within the same household, including different tastes, priorities, likes and dislikes
• Finding a practical and cohesive design direction that considers the preferences of everyone involved
• Keeping track of individual client preferences, including what they specifically like, dislike or wish to avoid throughout the design process
🔎 What We're Looking For
We’re particularly interested in students or recent graduates who have -
• A strong eye for interior design, colour, proportion and styling
• Good understanding of floor plans, measurements, scale and spatial planning
• Ability to create professional mood boards and design presentations
• 3D rendering capability using design software of their choice
• Strong product sourcing and online research skills
• Ability to work across different interior design styles
• Good communication and attention to client requirements
• Ability to adapt quickly and suggest alternatives when requirements or product availability change
• Ability to work independently and deliver within agreed timeframes

💰 Project & Payment
This is a freelance, project-based opportunity rather than a salaried position.
Projects will generally be offered at a fixed rate of AUD $300–$600 per project, depending on the size, scope, complexity and required deliverables.
There is potential for ongoing project opportunities for designers whose work and approach align well with PECBORA.
