Freelance Phlebotomist - UK Wide Heim is looking for experienced Freelance Phlebotomists to join our growing practitioner network across the UK. As a Heim practitioner, you’ll provide high-quality care to patients in their own homes and community settings, supporting a range of healthcare services on behalf of our clients. You’ll work independently in the community while being supported by Heim’s Clinical Operations team. About the role This opportunity is ideal for an experienced phlebotomist looking for flexible work alongside other professional or personal commitments. Appointments are made available through the Heim platform, allowing you to view available work and choose appointments that fit around your existing schedule and availability. Our technology supports you throughout the appointment journey, from accessing appointment information and completing clinical tasks through to recording outcomes and contacting the Heim team if you need support. As Heim continues to grow, there may also be opportunities to undertake additional clinical tasks alongside phlebotomy, subject to your skills, competency and appropriate training. Essential Requirements Experience: Minimum of 12 months’ recent phlebotomy experience, with confidence performing venepuncture independently DBS: Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to complete the appropriate DBS check as part of Heim’s onboarding process Insurance: Appropriate professional indemnity insurance, with evidence required References: 2 satisfactory professional references, including at least 1 from your most recent or current employment/engagement Driving: Full UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle for attending community appointments Language: Fluent spoken and written English Digital skills: Comfortable using mobile applications and digital systems to manage appointments and complete clinical documentation Right to work: Evidence of the right to work in the UK Training and compliance: Willingness to complete and maintain all mandatory training and compliance requirements specified by Heim Main Duties & Responsibilities Clinical duties Attend patients in their own homes and other community settings to undertake phlebotomy appointments booked through Heim. Perform venepuncture safely and competently in accordance with Heim policies, procedures, clinical guidance and individual appointment requirements. Undertake additional clinical observations or tasks where appropriately trained, assessed as competent and authorised to do so by Heim. Confirm patient identity, obtain appropriate consent and ensure the correct procedure is undertaken before commencing any clinical task. Correctly label, handle, package and prepare blood samples in accordance with the requirements for the individual appointment. Ensure samples are returned, posted, collected or delivered in accordance with the specific client pathway and within any required timeframes. Accurately document the appointment, clinical tasks undertaken and relevant outcomes using the Heim platform. Identify and escalate clinical concerns, incidents, safeguarding concerns or other risks appropriately and without delay. Seek advice and support from the Heim Clinical Operations team whenever a situation falls outside your competence, scope of practice or level of responsibility. Assess the environment before and during appointments and escalate any concerns that may affect the safety of the patient, practitioner or successful completion of the appointment. Maintain appropriate infection prevention and control standards, including the safe handling and disposal of sharps and clinical waste. Work within your individual scope of practice and only undertake activities for which you have the appropriate knowledge, skills, training and competence. Deliver compassionate, professional and respectful care, maintaining the dignity and privacy of every patient. Professional Responsibilities As a Heim practitioner, you will also be expected to: Adhere to Heim policies, procedures, clinical protocols and guidance at all times. Use Heim’s digital platform and associated systems to manage appointments, access relevant information and accurately record appointment outcomes. Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all applicable information governance and data protection requirements. Take reasonable steps to maintain a safe working environment for yourself, patients, carers and others. Report incidents, near misses, complaints, safeguarding concerns and other clinical or operational risks promptly through the appropriate Heim process. Maintain all required training, competencies, documentation and compliance requirements throughout your engagement with Heim. Engage with clinical supervision, competency assessment, audit and quality improvement activities where required. Communicate professionally with patients, carers, Heim colleagues, clients and other healthcare professionals. Work collaboratively with Heim’s Clinical Operations team and wider practitioner network to support safe and effective service delivery. Maintain a working knowledge of relevant legislation and professional requirements, including health and safety, equality, confidentiality, safeguarding and data protection. Ensure your availability, travel information and other relevant details held by Heim remain accurate and up to date. Attend relevant training, meetings or clinical reviews where reasonably required.
