Role Summary:

We're looking for a Front End & AI Developer to join our growing Data Centre of Excellence team. This is a hybrid development role requiring strong front-end engineering capability together with demonstrable, hands-on experience of designing, building and deploying AI agents and AI-enabled applications.
This is an exciting opportunity to build the next generation of digital products, production-ready AI agents and intelligent user experiences that will support one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes. The successful candidate will bring practical AI development experience—not simply experience of using generative AI tools to produce code.
Working alongside our AI Lead, Azure Data Engineer and Power Platform specialists, you'll design and develop modern web applications, dashboards, AI-enabled solutions and intelligent agents that bring together enterprise data, automation and Microsoft technologies.
You will use platforms such as Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, Microsoft Fabric and Azure AI Foundry to create agents that are secure, governed, grounded in trusted data and capable of integrating with business systems. You'll also help colleagues adopt M365 Copilot and purpose-built agents, driving responsible AI innovation across the business.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and building modern, responsive web applications and digital interfaces
- Designing, building, testing and deploying AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry and related Microsoft agent technologies
- Developing agent workflows that use enterprise data, APIs, actions, orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation and appropriate human oversight
- Grounding AI solutions in trusted organisational data, including data and services delivered through Microsoft Fabric and Azure
- Integrating AI agents and AI-enabled applications securely with business systems, APIs and Microsoft 365 services
- Applying responsible AI, security, access control, testing, monitoring and governance throughout the AI solution lifecycle
- Creating intuitive front-end experiences through which users can interact effectively with AI agents, insights and automated processes
- Working with enterprise data to deliver dashboards, reporting tools and embedded analytics
- Collaborating with Power Platform specialists to create seamless user experiences across multiple technologies
- Evaluating agent quality and performance, including accuracy, grounding, safety, usability and business outcomes.
- Supporting the controlled adoption of M365 Copilot, gathering user feedback and maintaining technical guidance, documentation and training materials
- Contributing to agile delivery, code reviews, testing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Establishing reusable patterns, components and development standards for scalable AI agent delivery.
What you'll bring
Essential:
- Demonstrable hands-on experience of designing, building, testing and deploying AI agents or AI-enabled applications in a professional environment
- Practical experience with Microsoft Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry or comparable enterprise AI agent platforms
- Experience integrating agents with enterprise data, APIs, business systems, actions or automated workflows
- Understanding of agent architecture and development concepts such as grounding, retrieval-augmented generation, orchestration, prompt design, tool use, evaluation and human oversight
- Knowledge of responsible AI, data security, access controls, monitoring and governance considerations for production AI solutions
- Strong front-end development experience using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
- Experience with modern frameworks such as React, Angular or similar
- A passion for creating accessible, user-focused and visually engaging digital experiences
- Knowledge of web application development, APIs, authentication and cloud-based technologies
- Experience with GitHub and collaborative software development practices
- Knowledge of Azure services and integration approaches
- Experience working with dashboards, analytics or data-driven applications
- An interest in AWS technologies and a willingness to develop AWS skills.
Desirable:
- Experience of Microsoft Fabric, Azure AI services, M365 Copilot or related Microsoft technologies would be highly advantageous
- Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform would be advantageous.
