### About Scalera

Scalera is an ETH Zurich spin-off building AI-powered procurement software for the European construction industry. Its platform automates supplier selection, tender management, and bid evaluation, serving 110+ customers across Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.

### Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer (Python), you will build and maintain backend services and APIs powering Scalera’s AI-driven procurement platform. You’ll work closely with the CTO and VP Engineering on AI production workflows, complex datasets, integrations, and platform reliability.

### Responsibilities

* Own backend problems end-to-end, from understanding user needs to delivering solutions.

* Build and maintain Python backend services supporting AI capabilities such as document parsing, supplier matching, and bid scoring.

* Design and implement RESTful APIs and integrations with frontend applications and external platforms.

* Develop data pipelines to ingest, normalize, and process structured and unstructured construction data.

* Participate in code reviews, testing, and CI/CD practices.

* Explore and contribute ideas for applying new AI techniques to procurement challenges.

* Work effectively in ambiguous environments by scoping, prioritizing, and delivering solutions.

### Required Qualifications

* 4+ years of backend engineering experience.

* Python as a primary programming language.

* Strong API design and RESTful systems experience.

* Production experience with FastAPI or Django.

* Solid knowledge of databases, data modeling, and query optimization.

* Experience with CI/CD and strong focus on code quality and maintainability.

* Interest in AI/ML systems and their behavior in production.

* Strong communication and teamwork skills.

* Ability to work independently and make progress without perfect clarity.

### Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with GCP, including Cloud Run, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, or similar services.

* Experience with data-heavy or AI-integrated product architectures.

* Familiarity with AI developer tools such as Cursor, Claude, or Copilot.

* B2B SaaS, construction technology, or procurement domain experience.

* German language skills.
