Frontend Engineer

Location: Remote from Tunisia | Optional relocation to Barcelona

About the Role

Build the interfaces people use to verify their identity, along with the tools clients and internal teams use to operate a fraud-prevention platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership of implementation, reliability, and technical quality. You will work closely with the Frontend Lead, Product, Design, and Backend Engineering teams to turn product goals and partial designs into fast, dependable, and maintainable interfaces.

About Surt

Surt is a B2B2C fraud prevention and identity platform that connects signals across identity, location, device, and behaviour to help customers understand who their users are and where risk lies.

The team is small, the product is live across multiple countries, and much of the platform is still being built. This provides an opportunity to have meaningful ownership and directly influence the evolution of the product.

What You Will Work On

• Build and improve verification flows used by end users, with a focus on performance, responsiveness, accessibility, and graceful handling of poor network conditions and errors.

• Develop and maintain client-facing and internal admin interfaces for managing and operating the platform.

• Integrate evolving backend APIs into resilient frontend workflows, identify contract issues, and collaborate with the team on practical solutions.

• Make sound architectural decisions around component structure, state and data flow, testing, and long-term maintainability.

• Work closely with Product and Design on technical feasibility and implementation trade-offs while respecting their ownership of UX decisions.

• Take ownership of features from implementation through delivery, ensuring a high standard of reliability and technical quality.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong hands-on experience building and shipping production web applications using React.

• Ability to take a rough problem or partial design and independently deliver a reliable, production-ready feature rather than simply implementing predefined components.

• Strong judgement around state management, API integration, performance, edge cases, and overall interface quality.

• Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach to challenging design or API decisions when necessary.

• Strong attention to user experience and the ability to work effectively with Product and Design without needing to own the UX direction.

• A strong sense of ownership, curiosity, and willingness to contribute to an evolving product and engineering environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience with React Native or React Native Web, or demonstrated ability to quickly learn a related frontend environment.

• Experience building consumer-facing flows, client portals, or operational dashboards within an evolving product team.

• A software engineering degree from INSAT or a comparable engineering institute is a plus, but not a requirement. Equivalent practical experience is welcome.

• A thoughtful approach to using AI tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity.

Technology & Team

The frontend spans a React monorepo that includes a live web verification experience and separate client and admin applications built with React Native Web.

React Native mobile development is currently on hold. The frontend interfaces connect to evolving Rust APIs, while the wider platform includes capabilities such as liveness detection and document scanning.

You do not need prior experience with every part of this technology stack. We value strong engineering fundamentals, adaptability, and the ability to learn quickly.

Location & Opportunity

This role is open to engineers based in Tunisia and will initially be remote from Tunisia.

If you later choose to relocate to Surt's Barcelona office, visa support is available. Remaining remote from Tunisia can also be considered.

You will report directly to the Frontend Lead, have direct access to leadership, and have the opportunity to help shape a growing product operating at meaningful scale.
