Frontend Engineer

We are hiring up to two Frontend Engineers, depending on the quality of applications.

Location: Remote (Nigeria-based), with regular in-person team sessions in Lagos, including occasional full weeks when the CEO is in Lagos

Type: Full-time, 12-month contract including a 3-month probation period, with the opportunity to move into a longer-term role based on performance

Reports to: Engineering Lead

Compensation: Competitive, set at offer stage according to experience and demonstrated ability, plus a quarterly performance bonus. Reviewed at six months.

ABOUT US

Appnable is a UK software company delivering AI-powered software, Microsoft 365 solutions and custom applications for clients in the UK, UAE and internationally. Our engineering, QA, design and marketing teams are based in Nigeria and work remotely.

THE ROLE

This is not a junior role. We want engineers who think like product engineers: who understand what the user is trying to do, question unclear requirements, and own the interface from requirements through to production, with minimal supervision.

You will work closely with backend engineers, designers, QA and our engineering leads, and may work directly with UK and international clients.

We care about what you have actually built. You should be able to show us live work, explain exactly what you contributed, and provide code we can review.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

- Build production applications using React, Next.js and TypeScript

- Turn Figma designs into accurate, responsive and polished interfaces

- Apply sound UI and UX principles, including accessibility and proper loading, error and empty states

- Integrate with REST APIs, and tell backend engineers clearly what you need from them

- Own features from requirements through development, testing and release

- Build reusable, maintainable components

- Diagnose and fix production issues

- Take part in code reviews and contribute to frontend standards

- Communicate progress, risks and blockers clearly

REQUIREMENTS

- NYSC completed (discharge certificate or valid exemption)

- Minimum 3 years of full-time professional frontend engineering experience since completing NYSC. Internships, school projects and freelance work alongside a degree do not count towards this requirement.

- Strong professional experience with React and TypeScript, and production experience with Next.js

- Excellent HTML and CSS, including responsive layouts

- Solid grasp of UI and UX principles

- Experience debugging real production issues, not only building new features

- Strong written and spoken English

- Availability for UK working-hours overlap

- Reliable power and internet, and your own equipment

USEFUL BUT NOT REQUIRED

- Capacitor or mobile-wrapped web applications

- Azure or Vercel deployments

- Automated frontend testing

- Direct client-facing experience
