About the Client

Our Client is the first virtual assistant specifically designed for psychotherapy. Our AI-powered practice management software automatically generates session notes and psychological reports, giving therapists more time to focus on their patients.

We are the market leading AI assistant for psychotherapists. Over 2,000 psychotherapists across the DACH region use our platform every day, and we process hundreds of thousands of sessions per month. We are ISO 27001:2022 certified and hold a BSI C5 attestation.

We are a multidisciplinary team of 12 in Berlin-Mitte. Being the market leader in documentation is our starting position, not our goal. We are going much deeper, into the therapeutic process itself and into how a practice is run, with new products, some of which will be regulated as medical devices under EU MDR.

About this Role

Our roadmap is limited by engineering throughput, not by ideas. You will be our fourth engineer. At that size nobody owns a slice of the stack: you take a feature and you ship all of it, and you do that at a pace most teams would call unreasonable.

We hire at more than one level. If you are senior enough to own a product surface end to end, we want to talk. If you are earlier in your career but visibly faster than your peers, we also want to talk. We calibrate the level during the process, so apply rather than filtering yourself out.

Responsibilities

• Own features end to end, by yourself. From the problem through architecture, implementation, release and the fixes that follow. Frontend, backend and everything in between. Nobody hands you a finished spec and nobody finishes your work for you
• Make the technical decisions. From choosing a library to architecting a new feature. We trust you to decide without oversight and to defend the decision when it is questioned
• Integrate AI into the product. Work with our AI services to build dependable systems around probabilistic output.
• Build real-time features. WebSocket-based live capabilities, where latency is visible to the user
• Ship on desktop and mobile. Our Electron app is where much of the therapist experience lives: main and renderer architecture, native OS integration, auto-update, offline-first behaviour. Our React Native app is shipping now
• Iterate fast. Continuous deployment and short cycles, with design controls and traceable test evidence on the surfaces that fall under EU MDR

Requirements

• Genuinely full-stack. Strong React and TypeScript on the front end, and real backend work behind it: API design, data modelling, relational databases, async and background processing. You have built and operated both halves of a feature, not consumed an API someone else wrote
• You have shipped software that real users depend on, and you supported it afterwards. You know what breaks in production and why
• Debugging strength across the whole stack. When something is wrong you find it rather than guess at it
• Real autonomy. You identify what needs doing, decide, and ship. No standup is what keeps you moving
• Empathy for the people who use what you build. Our users are therapists under time pressure, and you are curious enough about their work to build something they actually love
• Clear written English and comfort working async

Nice to Have

• LLM application engineering: evaluation, prompt pipelines, agent tooling, latency and cost optimisation
• Electron or another desktop platform, including distribution, code signing and auto-update
• React Native, and experience publishing to the App Store and Play Store
• Audio processing, transcription or other real-time media
• Healthcare, GDPR-heavy or other regulated environments
• German. Our users, their documents and our support conversations are in German
