About the role

Inference Economics is a small economic advisory firm working in natural resource economics, conservation, Indigenous economics, and economic development. Our work includes agreement development and implementation, litigation support, policy design, and advocacy.

We are hiring a Funding Agreements and Reporting Specialist to manage funding agreements and reporting for our clients. You will report to the Lead Economist and work directly with client program and finance teams.

Most of your time will support a regional Inuit organization in Nunavut. The remaining time will support Inference Economics’ internal systems and other projects.

What you will do

• Maintain a register of funding agreements, including approved amounts, eligible activities, payment schedules, reporting obligations, and expiry dates

• Develop annual and multiyear budgets and monitor actual and committed spending against funding limits and deadlines

• Reconcile funding trackers with financial records, investigate discrepancies, and flag unspent balances, shortfalls, potentially ineligible expenses, and funding at risk of lapsing

• Draft financial and narrative reports for funders, coordinate internal review, and track submissions and responses

• Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for program and executive leadership on balances, forecasts, deadlines, and compliance risks

• Coordinate with program and finance teams to gather the information and approvals needed for reporting

• Develop templates, trackers, filing systems, and procedures, and help others use them

What we are looking for

• At least two years of experience administering funding, grant, or contribution agreements, or comparable budget and reporting experience

• Experience with non-profit funding or government funding agreements, including developing budgets and managing reporting responsibilities

• Strong spreadsheet skills and experience reconciling financial information across systems

• Clear writing and the ability to prepare accurate financial and narrative reports

• The ability to manage several deadlines, work independently, and identify issues that need a decision

• Comfort working directly with clients in a small firm

• A relevant degree or equivalent experience

• Authorization to work in Canada

Experience with government contribution agreements, Sage Intacct or a comparable accounting system, or Inuit or First Nations organizations would be an asset.

Employment details

• Salary: $75,000 to $90,000 CAD per year

• Full time, 37.5 hours per week

• One year fixed term employee position, with the possibility of extension

• Remote within Canada, with some overlap with Eastern time for client meetings and flexible start and end times

• Occasional travel to Iqaluit, likely three to five days once per quarter. Approved travel expenses are covered.

• Two weeks of paid vacation
