OPPORTUNITY: • Administrative support role for currently enrolled students. • This is an off campus Federal Work Study Position or Tutor role. RESPONSIBILITIES Community: READ 718 is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit literacy center that provides 1:1 evidence-based reading instruction to students in 3rd-8th grade who are reading below grade level and who qualify as low-income. To learn more about READ 718, please visit our website at read718.org Commitment Choose Option 1 or 2: Option 1 : 6 hours per week - work with 3 students 1:1, twice per week Option 2 : 10 hours per week - work with 3 students 1:1, twice per week + provide additional programmatic support to READ 718 Tutors meet 1:1 with the same student(s) twice a week for 10-20 weeks after school (between the hours of 2-7pm EST) DeVry students must commit to at least 1 tutoring semester during the school year, August – December or January – June 1-hour sessions Follow a structured lesson plan using pre-chosen curriculum and texts Engage in ongoing coaching All sessions and tasks take place remotely on Zoom! Requirements No experience is required, however, a background in education or working with kids is a plus Growth mindset and positive attitude Attend a 20-minute orientation virtually Two-character references Third-party background check 2.5-hour virtual literacy training QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Below are the minimum requirements of the education, experience, knowledge, and skills required to competently perform in this position. Must be a current student in good standing and possess a GPA of 2.0 or higher. Must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits per semester. FWS fund eligible.
