KUTV seeks an enterprising and General Assignment Reporter/Weather Forecaster to join our team. Are you a news-driven person who has experience with forecasting? A journalist who enjoys news, weather, and has the ability and drive to excel at both? KUTV has a unique opportunity for a journalist/forecaster hybrid role. On the reporter side, we are looking for someone with a clear understanding of how to dig for a story, research it, write it with an edge, and use strong storytelling and TV production to make it impactful and memorable. Knowledge of current events, educational and political systems is essential, with a focus on government accountability. On the forecasting side, the ideal candidate has a high interest in weather. You will turn weather-related stories. Fill-in forecasting on different shifts when needed. Do you love sharing the big weather story, whether that is on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, a mobile app, or on TV? Do you love explaining the why and the how of weather, far beyond current radar and the 7-day forecast? Utah is a dynamic state to cover weather, providing significantly different forecasts for different parts of the state. We want someone who is hungry to learn about the impact the weather has on our communities. Must have great organization and time management skills for both roles to be able to create a pipeline of stories, and connections within the community, track and hit deadlines on time. Your responsibilities in addition to television include reporting and forecasting for our digital and social platforms. Examples include- but not limited to- producing stories for KUTV.COM that include unique digital-only content. You will also be expected to post unique content to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms. Our newsroom is one that places a high value on being a voice for the voiceless through holding those in power accountable. As a reporter in our newsroom, you’ll be expected to find and pitch these stories- then enjoy the satisfaction knowing your reporting is truly making a difference. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Minimum 3 Years of reporting/MMJ experience Develop and maintain contacts and sources in the community to enterprise story ideas Identify and pitch enterprise stories that are unique and land in key topic areas Work closely with newsroom managers to refine pitches and story scripts Produce digital versions of your reports. This may include digital-only elements, producing unique content for YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook. Working with the digital team to create a unique digital plan for each story. Shoot and edit stories Maintain an active social media presence to build your brand. Produces and presents weather reports for all platforms when needed, including filling-in on newscasts. Produce weather graphics and maps for all platforms Report live during weather events Be part of the news team ensemble where you will do non-weather things like trending topics, community events, interviews and traffic, as assigned. Other duties as assigned Qualifications: Previous on-air experience presenting weather is preferred. Have proven knowledge and experience working with current media creation tools Excel in storytelling across multiple platforms Retain strong writing and copy-editing skills Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines High energy and engaging personality Willingness to come in off duty when severe weather threatens our area Team player.
