POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented General Ledger (GL) Accountant to join our Finance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for core financial accounting, general ledger management, month-end closing, and expense budgeting.
(Please note: This role is strictly focused on GL and reporting. Accounts Payable (AP) and all payment processing functions are handled by Haseeb.)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
General Ledger & Bookkeeping:
- Manage daily financial accounting operations and general ledger entries.
- Ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately, timely, and in compliance with accounting policy.
- Perform regular general ledger account reconciliations to ensure data integrity.
Accruals, Prepayments & Adjustments:
- Calculate and post monthly accruals, prepayments, and provisions (e.g., bonuses, utilities, unbilled revenue/expenses).
- Maintain the fixed asset register and execute monthly depreciation, amortization, and impairment postings.
Month-end & Year-end Close:
- Take a leading role in the month-end and year-end financial close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Conduct pre-close ledger reviews, clear outstanding items, and reconcile cross-departmental accounts (excluding AP ledgers). Prepare monthly management accounts, trial balances, and assist in drafting statutory financial statements.
Expense Budgeting & Variance Analysis:
- Partner with department heads to assist in the preparation of annual and monthly expense budgets.
- Monitor actual expenditures against approved budgets.
- Prepare and present monthly variance analysis reports, highlighting trends and providing actionable cost-saving recommendations.
Audit & Tax Support:
- Act as a key point of contact for external/internal auditors, providing necessary working papers, GL extracts, and required evidence.
- Provide foundational data and support for quarterly VAT returns and annual Corporation Tax filings.
KEY QUALIFICATION
Education & Certifications:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Fully qualified or actively studying towards a recognized accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or AAT Level 4 highly preferred).
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of UK GAAP / IFRS and current financial regulations.
- Proficiency in modern accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., Sage, Xero, SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas, and data manipulation).
Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy and strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
