Job Title: GL Accountant Job Description A growing life sciences company on the San Francisco Peninsula is seeking a GL Accountant to support its finance team. This role focuses on maintaining accurate general ledger records, supporting month-end and quarter-end close, and partnering with cross-functional stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities Enter financial data and transactions into the general ledger with a high level of accuracy and timeliness. Record cash entries and ensure all cash-related transactions are properly documented. Prepare and perform cash reconciliations, promptly identifying and resolving variances. Review financial documents, accounts, and entries for accuracy, completeness, and proper support. Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting. Assist with internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responses to audit inquiries. Prepare journal entries for fixed assets, prepaids, accounts payable, and standard accruals. Verify general ledger coding to ensure transactions are classified correctly and consistently. Manage new vendor setup for accounts payable, including collecting and validating required information. Resolve accounting-related issues and discrepancies by investigating root causes and proposing solutions. Collaborate with finance and other teams to improve accounting processes and support the company’s growth. Essential Skills 3–5 years of experience performing similar general ledger accounting tasks, including journal entries and reconciliations. Hands-on experience with GL accounting, including general ledger maintenance and account analysis. Strong reconciliation skills, particularly with cash and balance sheet accounts. Intermediate Excel skills, including proficiency with VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables. Experience with NetSuite for general ledger and financial operations. Ability to review financial documents and accounts for accuracy and compliance with internal standards. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple accounting tasks and deadlines. Effective communication skills to collaborate with finance team members and other stakeholders. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a similar field preferred. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with purchasing or procurement tools such as Point Purchasing. Background supporting companies in life sciences, biotech, medical device, or pharma environments. Experience working with fast-growing startup organizations, particularly at Series C stage or similar. Ability to support audit processes by preparing schedules and documentation. Comfort with hybrid and remote collaboration tools and workflows. Demonstrated ability to resolve accounting discrepancies and improve processes. Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial data and identify issues. Preference for candidates with experience supporting a Life Science or Biotech company. Work Environment The role offers flexibility, with fully remote work accepted and a strong preference for candidates located in the Bay Area. A hybrid schedule is preferred, and the position may require in-office attendance during critical month-end and quarter-end close activities. The work environment is fast-paced and growth-oriented, supporting a rapidly scaling Series C life sciences startup. You will collaborate closely with a highly communicative finance team using tools such as NetSuite, QuickBooks/QBO, Excel, and purchasing systems like Point Purchasing. Clear, proactive communication and comfort working across remote and hybrid settings are important for success in this environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
