Job Description


Reporting into the President of the Legal Professionals segment, the General Manager, Small Law Firms (SLF) will manage a team of approximately 200 individuals through four direct reports and oversee a business of $75-100M in annual new sales. This leader is responsible for developing and expanding a diverse customer base of small law firms across North America. This person will be a key member of the Global Legal leadership team and will champion the integration and utilization of cutting-edge AI technology and pioneering innovative solutions within the industry. As a leader in Thomson Reuters, they will also be responsible for developing a team that promotes the company vision for a fully diverse and inclusive workplace. This role is based in Minneapolis.


Key Responsibilities


Own top-line metrics including revenue, sales, and retention through customer engagement while managing costs and expenses. Champion the integration and utilization of cutting-edge AI technology and pioneering innovative solutions within the industry. Advocate for investment in market needs and support from internal partner organizations across Thomson Reuters including Commercial Excellence and Order to Cash. Define and execute the sub-segment strategy and growth plan aligned to segment strategy while meeting or exceeding the annual business plan. Maintain visible presence in the industry with the small law firm segment. Effectively oversee a high-volume transactional channel by utilizing advanced sales pipeline analytics and AI-driven tools to ensure optimal performance. Partner closely with product marketing on inbound and outbound activities to influence market messaging, including market and customer insight, value proposition, customer segmentation, channel strategy, and product launches. Lead and drive customer-focused and obsessed teams with market-leading NPS and customer retention metrics. Drive a high-performing, engaged workforce and recruit world-class sales talent. Define strategy and growth plans including organic and inorganic growth opportunities. Work closely with product and marketing teams to synthesize customer needs into high-impact products and services. Drive sales talent strategy including recruitment, development, engagement, and strategic workforce planning aligned to business strategy. Understand external trends, opportunities, and market insights relevant to the small law firm segment.


Required Qualifications


10+ years of leadership experience managing large-scale sales organizations (200+ people) or equivalent business units. Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales, revenue, and retention targets in a B2B professional services or software environment. Demonstrated success developing and executing business strategy aligned to broader organizational goals. Strong expertise in sales pipeline management, forecasting, and utilization of advanced analytics and AI-driven tools. Proven ability to build, develop, and retain high-performing, diverse teams with strong engagement metrics. Experience with customer-focused business models and demonstrated ability to drive customer retention and NPS improvement. Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills with ability to influence across business units and geographies. Strong communication skills at all organizational levels, with ability to articulate vision and strategy clearly. Demonstrated leadership in fostering inclusive, diverse workplace environments.


Preferred Qualifications


Experience in legal technology, legal services, or professional services software industries. Track record of successfully integrating or championing AI and emerging technology initiatives. Demonstrated experience with product marketing alignment and go-to-market strategy execution. Background in managing high-volume transactional or channel sales models. Experience scaling businesses organically and through inorganic growth (acquisitions, partnerships). Familiarity with North American legal market dynamics and small law firm customer needs. Experience with Agile business methodologies and rapid decision-making in ambiguous environments. MBA or equivalent advanced business degree. Executive presence with strong ability to influence industry conversations and build external relationships.

The base compensation range varies across locations.

For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $300,000 USD - $450,000 USD.

Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
