Role Description The General Surgeon will provide remote surgical consultations via AfyaMeet’s telehealth platform, including preoperative assessments, postoperative follow-ups, and second opinions on complex cases. Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing patient histories and diagnostic results, advising on appropriate surgical options and conservative management, and coordinating care with primary care providers and specialists. The role also involves documenting encounters in line with professional and regulatory standards, supporting patient education, and contributing to clinical quality and safety initiatives across the platform. This is a contract, remote role, allowing flexibility while ensuring consistent and reliable availability during agreed-upon consultation hours.

Qualifications

• Strong foundation in Medicine and general clinical practice, with the ability to manage a broad spectrum of surgical patients.
• Clinical competence in Surgery, including assessment, perioperative planning, and postoperative care in a telehealth context.
• Experience or exposure to Orthopedic Surgery related conditions, with the ability to provide appropriate referrals or guidance when needed.
• Experience or exposure to Plastic Surgery and Ophthalmology cases, particularly in advising on referrals, follow-up, and non-emergency management.
• Fully licensed medical doctor with specialist training in General Surgery; registration with relevant Kenyan medical regulatory bodies.
• Minimum of several years of post-qualification surgical practice, ideally including work in diverse clinical settings.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality care via telemedicine, including clear communication, digital documentation, and remote patient counseling.
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and video consultation tools, and reliable internet connectivity for remote practice.
• Commitment to ethical practice, patient confidentiality, and culturally sensitive care aligned with Kenyan healthcare needs.
