The purpose of the Global Services Department is to help others come unto Christ by serving members, leaders, and employees globally in a simple and efficient way. The Geographic Information Systems Analyst 1 applies knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to a limited set of specified projects for analytical and cartographic purposes. This intermediate support position maintains geographic information system data sets according to established processes including digitizing, editing, research, creation, calculation, and merging of data from different sources. Reports to a manager. This is an individual contributor, entry professional role • Duties typically center around timeliness, accuracy, and integrity of information. • Maintains and publishes volumes of standard static maps utilized by the Church leaders and department staff. • May work with other GIS staff to maintain and publish online interactive maps utilized by the Church leaders and department staff. • Maintains and enhances GIS data sets, according to evolving needs and resources including digitizing, editing, research, creation, calculation of attributes and merging of data from different sources. • Converts data received from internal and external sources to make them compatible to the Church GIS database. • May use GIS datasets to analyze and model spatial data with the goal of highlighting relevant geographic insight, generally resulting in the creation of a custom static map or online interactive map. • Creates, maintains, and conducts quality checks of geographic data sets using a variety of tools to identify and correct errors or omissions in data. Applies special attention to topology issues. • Maintains and enhances GIS data sets, according to evolving needs and resources including digitizing, editing, research, creation, calculation and editing of attributes and merging of data from different sources. • Provides geographic information and services to authorized clients at Church headquarters and worldwide (e.g., General Authorities, Boundary and Leadership Change Committee (BLCC), administration offices, Area Presidents, Mission Presidents, local Church leaders, and other Church departments). • Produces maps, tables, and a variety of deliverables and services of both spatial and aspatial data for customers in a courteous and timely manner. • Ensures that privacy and security standards are met and adhered to. • Conducts research of past cases, statistics, and leader decisions. • Handles analytical issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff. Required: • Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Urban Panning (or closely related field) or equivalent education and experience equal to four years • Ability to accomplish work under direct supervision to perform variety of analytical functions. • Good oral and written communication skills, possessing the ability to write reports and correspondence. • Basic proficiency using current ESRI products, including ArcGIS Desktop, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Pro, ArcSDE, ArcGIS Online and Portal. Ability to learn other ESRI products as need arises. • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage. • Basic proficiency with data manipulation and reporting. • Basic ability in map projection, coordinate transformation concepts, cartographic principles, and best practices. • Ability to maintain confidentiality. • Beginner proficiency with Adobe products, including Acrobat Pro, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop. • Beginner proficiency in using third party mapping software, including Google Earth, Google Maps, Bing Maps, OpenStreet Maps and LandVision. • Demonstrates basic competency in using organization systems, including CDOL, Boundary and Leadership Proposals, Service Now, FileNet, Geopolitical Locality (GPL), Meetinghouse Locator, Ward Map, Global Property Management (GPM), As-Built Catalog, Church History Catalog, Physical Facilities Maps (PF Maps), and Policy Point. • Basic understanding of relational database structure, ability to create queries in a variety of tools, and conceptual knowledge of Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL). • Possesses basic analytical thinking skills. Has the ability to identify and define problems, extract key information from data and develop workable solutions for the problems identified. • Possesses basic research skills. Has the ability to search for, locate, extract, organize, evaluate, and use information that is relevant to a particular topic. • Basic knowledge of GIS principles and practices. • Advanced knowledge of geodata file types including shapefile, gdb, gdb, json and kml. • Ability to work with a set of policies and guidelines, but capable of exercising sound judgment when tasks are not clearly defined. • Close attention to detail and organization. • Requires good judgement to recognize the most crucial issues to be included in case summaries and to make recommendations to leaders. • Must be able to work at a computer station for extended periods of time. • Able to perform the following physical requirements, with or without an accommodation: • Fine manipulation • Standing and walking, possibly over uneven terrain or climbing a slope • Lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs. • Reaching overhead, as well as at or below shoulder level • Driving a motorized passenger vehicle (company van) • Stooping, crouching, kneeling • Far visual acuity (clarity of vision at more than 20 feet)
