The individual will be part of the TSI Leadership Team in Pune and working closely with the other Engineering TSI Team Leaders as well as an extension of the Reservoir & Base Management Specialists Team in Global Subsurface Solutions.

The Geomodelling & Simulation Team Leader role is a key part of the TSI Leadership Team and R&BM team. To provide sensible spans of control, global presence and “thinking time”, there are three Geomodelling & Simulation TL positions in R&BM. Together with the Geomodelling & Simulation TL from TSI, these positions make up the “GMT Leadership Team” (GMT LT). Working with the Reservoir & Base Management Specialists Manager, the GMT LT will oversee all activities in the GMT, as well as integrating with the larger Reservoir & Base Management Specialists Team.

Day to day, Geomodelling & Simulation TLs will be involved in a wide variety of activities. For example:

• Line management of a multi-disciplinary team (including geologists and reservoir engineers)in TSI;
• The creation, communication and execution of long-term geomodelling and simulation strategy;
• Technical verification of modelling activity;
• Working with the Technology organisation to revolutionise the geomodelling and simulation toolkit.
  

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about use of geomodelling and simulation and looking to drive forward a programme of rejuvenation in this space. The role demands a broad set of technical, interpersonal and business skills and offers a great opportunity to influence bp’s geomodelling & simulation direction and capability for the near- and long-term.

R&BM Leadership

Working with the Reservoir & Base Management Specialists Manager and other Team Leads in R&BM Team to:

• Develop and implement a Geomodelling & Simulation Strategy (with the Reservoir & Base Management Specialists Manager).
• Evolve the GMT’s operating model to align with the Geomodelling & Simulation Strategy, improve engagement with regions and enhance bp’s geomodelling & simulation capability.
  

Geomodelling & Simulation Activity

Working with the Reservoir & Base Management Specialists Manager and other TLs in the GMT to:

• Determine optimal deployment of geomodelling and simulation resources to meet regional and federal demand.
• Maintain an understanding of regional modelling demand and technical challenges that could benefit from GMT assistance.
• Establish a global understanding of bp’s geomodelling & simulation “estate” to enable proactive engagement with regions on their modelling questions, challenges and plans.
  

Subject area and Line Management

An active member of the TSI Leadership team and providing day-to-day line management to all line reports, including:

• Managing bp performance processes for all line reports (e.g. setting dynamic goals in focus@bp and conducting quarterly performance check-ins).
• Providing “pastoral care” to all line reports.
• Collaborate with other TSI TLs on key business opportunities & risks to ensure that they are addressed in a truly integrated manner.
• Managing long-term GMT capability through recommending and handling promotions, overseeing training requirements, working with Subsurface Disciplines to establish the competencies and capabilities required for a healthy geomodelling & simulation community and conducting interviews and onboarding processes.
• Agree on a development plan and actions for each direct report
• Supporting the TSI Leadership team on federal activities to manage the risk profiles and grow/sustain the organization in Pune
  

Technical Work

• Performing technical verification of modelling activity, including model fitness and acceptance reviews.
• Engaging in hands-on technical work as needed when regional demand for modelling resources is high, when fast turnaround is required, or if federal activities emerge.
  

Working with Technology

• Working with Technology to develop, select and deploy revolutionary tools and applications to greatly reduce modelling cycle times and improve model quality.

Future Location Notice: This role will start in Sunbury, London. bp has announced a planned office move to Timber Square, London, with all positions currently advertised in Sunbury, including this one, expected to relocate around Q4 2027-Q1 2028. This presents an exciting opportunity for all employees and leaders to come together in one London location. The specific date of the move will be confirmed closer to the time.
