POSTITION SUMMARY:
Reporting directly to the Chief Development Officer and consistent with the mission of Girls on the Run International, the Vice President of Development is responsible for leading the organization's corporate revenue strategy and portfolio, with accountability for growing the overall $2M corporate portfolio and personally generating an individual annual contributed income goal of $1.2MM+ with a minimum of $625K in new contributed income each fiscal year.

This is a senior, externally facing business development role for someone with demonstrated ability to identify high-potential prospects, open doors to senior decision makers, develop compelling partnership opportunities, and move relationships from initial conversation to signed six- and seven-figure agreements. The ideal candidate is an entrepreneurial self-starter who is energized by building relationships, pursuing new opportunities, and closing significant partnerships. They are comfortable creating opportunities rather than waiting for them, can quickly understand what matters to a prospective partner, and can translate the Girls on the Run mission and assets into a persuasive business case for investment.
The Vice President of Development leads and develops the Senior Development Manager and other assigned staff, provides leadership across the corporate partnership portfolio, and serves as a strategic partner to the Chief Development Officer. This position operates with a high degree of independence and is accountable for both process and results: anticipating next steps, identifying and addressing obstacles early, establishing clear priorities, and independently managing deadlines and commitments. Success in this role is measured by revenue secured across the portfolio, partner retention and growth, team performance against goals, pipeline strength, and consistent conversion of pipeline into revenue.
This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
Principal Responsibilities
New Revenue Strategy and Portfolio Leadership
- Own an individual annual contributed income goal of $1.2M+, including securing a minimum of $625K in new contributed income each fiscal year by actively building and managing a robust pipeline of corporate prospects valued at no less than three times the annual new revenue goal and ensure the team's combined pipeline supports the full corporate revenue budget.
- Proactively secure meetings with senior corporate decision makers through networking, prospecting, referrals, events, and other relationship-building strategies and lead the full business development process from prospect identification and cultivation through pitch development, solicitation, negotiation, and close.
- Create and deliver persuasive proposals, presentations, customized partnership concepts, and pitches that clearly articulate the value of partnering with Girls on the Run with prospective partners' business, brand, employee engagement, and social impact priorities.
- Maintain momentum throughout the sales cycle, establish clear next steps, address barriers quickly, and consistently advance qualified prospects toward commitment.
Team Leadership and Management
- Supervise the Senior Development Manager and additional development staff as assigned, establishing clear goals and accountability for results.
- Contribute as a senior member of the Partnerships and Development team to overall revenue strategy and organizational priorities through proactive decision-making, prioritization of the highest-impact work, early escalation of obstacles, and independent follow-through.
- Provide the Chief Development Officer with clear visibility into pipeline strength, revenue projections, significant opportunities, and risks.
Partnership Strategy, Negotiation, and Stewardship
- Effectively negotiate and oversee execution of partnership terms and agreements across the portfolio, structuring deliverables, benefits, activation opportunities, and renewal strategies within established organizational parameters.
- Devise concepts and work cross-functionally to cultivate, secure, and develop innovative corporate sponsorships and cause marketing campaigns that increase awareness of and funding for Girls on the Run and engage consumers and employees in supporting our mission.
- Identify opportunities to increase the value of existing partnerships through expanded engagement, new activation opportunities, increased investment, or multi-year commitments.
- Execute meaningful stewardship strategies that demonstrate partner impact, strengthen relationships, and position Girls on the Run for continued investment, including a minimum of quarterly meaningful touchpoints with each assigned partner.
Cross-Functional and Organizational Leadership
- Collaborate with Finance to support accurate revenue forecasting, partnership agreements, and reconciliation.
- Leverage council relationships and organizational networks to expand corporate partner engagement and create scalable local and national activation opportunities.
- Attend industry events to cultivate new partner relationships and increase awareness of Girls on the Run.
- Contribute to selected strategic initiatives and organizational priorities that strengthen development practices, improve effectiveness, and create new opportunities for revenue growth and partnership engagement.
General Responsibilities
- Demonstrate and uphold the Girls on the Run core values in support of the organization’s mission and culture.
- Develop positive relationships with national partners, council directors, volunteers, board members, community members, and staff.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Development Officer in support of organizational and team priorities.
- Up to 25% travel.
Every member of our staff community is expected to serve as a Girls on the Run role model, exhibiting our core values and working to forward the mission. We commit ourselves to actively developing and nurturing positive relationships across the organization - with staff, council members, donors, and board members.
Girls on the Run strives to provide staff with opportunities for meaningful in-person connection throughout the year including staff gatherings, professional development opportunities and organization-wide conferences. Employees are always encouraged, and in occasional instances required, to participate in and contribute to these events.
