We are working with an established Swedish software company developing specialist mapping, navigation and data products for the international aviation and flight-simulation market.
Its products combine large geographical and aeronautical datasets to provide accurate mapping and navigation information to a global community of users.
About the position
We are looking for a GIS Software Developer to join a specialist GIS and product-development team in Stockholm.
This is a software-engineering position with a strong geospatial specialism rather than a traditional GIS Analyst role.
You will help develop the mapping infrastructure behind a suite of aviation products, building backend services, geospatial data pipelines, map tiles and APIs. The work involves processing complex geographical datasets and turning raster and vector data into reliable mapping functionality used across web, mobile and desktop products.
What you will work on
You will help the team:
- Build and maintain GIS and geographical data pipelines
- Process and transform raster and vector datasets
- Work with PostgreSQL, PostGIS and geospatial SQL
- Generate, optimise and serve map tiles
- Develop backend services and APIs using TypeScript and Node.js
- Automate updates to geographical and aeronautical datasets
- Work with aviation, terrain, weather and wider mapping data
- Develop new mapping functionality and visualisations
Core skills
We would like to speak with software developers who have:
- At least three years of commercial GIS or geospatial software-development experience
- Strong TypeScript and Node.js backend-development skills
- Experience with PostgreSQL, PostGIS and geospatial SQL
- Python experience for GIS or data-processing workflows
- Commercial experience with tools or technologies such as Mapbox, QGIS, GDAL or OpenStreetMap
- Experience processing raster and vector data
- Familiarity with AWS, Docker and CI/CD
- Professional fluency in English
The strongest candidates will come from a software-development background and have specialised in GIS or geospatial technology. This position is unlikely to suit profiles focused predominantly on GIS analysis without substantial programming experience.
Relevant additional experience
Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial:
- Mapbox Style Specification or Leaflet
- React or React Native
- GraphQL
- Rust
- GRIB files or weather data
- 3D modelling or terrain visualisation
- Cartography, navigation or aeronautical data
- Aviation or flight-simulation technology
The opportunity
You will join a technically curious, collaborative team where developers contribute ideas and influence how mapping products, data pipelines, and geospatial services are designed.
We prefer someone who can work on a hybrid basis from Stockholm. Remote candidates based elsewhere in Europe may also be considered.
If you are a software developer specialising in GIS and would be interested in applying your experience to aviation, mapping and navigation technology, apply or get in touch for a confidential conversation.
