GIS Technician Sr, Transmission

Provides Geographic Information System (GIS) based mapping services to transmission and high pressure distribution divisions. The data mapping requirements for Transmission GIS mappers are significantly more extensive than those for Distribution GIS mappers. A substantially larger number of data elements must be collected, maintained, and mapped within the GIS database to support Transmission and High-Pressure Distribution pipeline integrity management, TVC processes, and risk analysis. In addition to the Utility Network tools used by Distribution GIS mappers, Transmission GIS mappers must also utilize Location Referencing System (LRS) tools to map, manage, and maintain linear features and associated events. These include assets and datasets such as valves, elbows, tees, CIS/DCVG inspections, High Consequence Areas (HCAs), Class Locations, and other integrity-related events. Transmission GIS mappers are also expected to possess working knowledge of Transmission Integrity Management Program (TIMP) requirements, regulatory compliance standards, HCAs, Class Locations, 100 percent of SMYS calculations, corrosion management, and other pipeline integrity concepts. Such expertise is essential to ensure the accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance of transmission-related GIS data.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Utilize GIS software to update and maintain gas system and land base spatial data based on information received from internal field operations and external sources.
• Analyze and interpret source documentation (engineering drawings, material sheets, CAD drawings, etc.) for completeness, correctness and usability.
• Communicate with business operations to resolve source documentation problems.
• Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
• Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
  

Education Requirements

• Preferred Associate’s Degree in GIS or related field.

Experience

• In addition to vocational training, this role typically calls for two to four years of relevant experience; (Minimum of one-year relevant experience is required).
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret engineering drawings and associated documentation, right-of-way information, maps, and legal descriptions.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and use ancillary information systems, such as Maximo, to support day-to-day work activities.
• Knowledge of ESRI desktop software for data editing, querying, map and report creation.
• Demonstrated ability to follow regulatory requirements for the gas pipeline and utility industry, including company standards and procedures,
• Knowledge and/or training related but not limited to:
  • Applicable GIS software
  • Basic geospatial concepts including:
    • Data formats, coordinate systems, and map projections
    • Table and spatial queries
    • External data processing: format conversions, spatial adjustment, attribute mapping
    • Gas system business processes

• Demonstrated ability to read and write fluently in English.

Licenses and Certifications

• Required: Applicable driver's license
• Preferred: ERSI Desktop Associate Certification
  

Additional Requirements

• Mobility to travel in and around job sites system wide.
• Able to communicate and /or exchange information.

• Visual abilities sufficient to perform job duties.
