Company: Musashi Paint Holdings Co., Ltd.

Location: Ikebukuro, Tokyo

Work Style: Hybrid / Primarily office-based

Employment Type: Full-time, permanent

Level: Manager / Future Head of HR candidate

Compensation: JPY 8–10 million annually, depending on experience and capabilities

About Musashi Paint

Musashi Paint Holdings is a global coatings manufacturer headquartered in Japan, with approximately 1,000 employees, 22 group companies, and 14 production sites across 10 countries.

As the Group continues to grow internationally, we are strengthening the global HR foundation connecting our people, business strategy, and operations—while respecting the culture and strengths of each location.

About the Role

We are seeking a Global HR Manager to help turn the vision of One Musashi into reality.

Working closely with senior management, HR colleagues in Japan and overseas, internal teams, and external partners, you will connect recruitment, talent development, workforce planning, talent management, and succession planning into a practical and consistent people strategy.

This is not a role focused solely on maintaining existing HR processes. You will help define the people and organizational capabilities Musashi Paint needs for the future, set priorities, and build solutions that work in practice.

You will lead initiatives from strategy through implementation while remaining hands-on in analysis, materials preparation, stakeholder coordination, meeting facilitation, and progress management.

Key Responsibilities

Global HR Strategy

  • Translate business priorities into clear HR priorities and actions
  • Identify key people and organizational challenges
  • Strengthen the Group’s global HR organization and operating model
  • Connect recruitment, development, deployment, talent management, and succession planning into one coherent strategy

Recruitment and Workforce Planning

  • Support strategic and priority recruitment in partnership with the existing recruitment team
  • Define future talent requirements based on business and organizational needs
  • Translate talent needs into practical recruitment strategies
  • Develop medium- and long-term workforce and talent deployment plans
  • Identify future capability gaps and recommend recruitment, development, succession, or deployment actions
  • Present workforce and talent recommendations to senior management

Leadership and Talent Development

  • Design and lead global talent development initiatives
  • Identify and develop future leaders and high-potential employees
  • Build succession plans for critical positions
  • Strengthen career and leadership development frameworks

Talent Management

  • Improve how employee and talent data is organized and used
  • Help define roles, competencies, talent requirements, and career paths
  • Identify gaps between current capabilities and future organizational needs
  • Use talent data to support development, placement, and succession decisions

HR Transformation

  • Work with HR teams in Japan and overseas to improve Group-wide HR practices
  • Lead HR projects from planning and design through implementation
  • Improve HR systems, processes, and ways of working
  • Advance HR standardization, efficiency, technology, and data use

Connecting Japan and Global HR

  • Build trusted relationships with HR and management across overseas locations
  • Lead discussions with overseas HR teams and establish shared direction
  • Facilitate meetings and prepare presentations in Japanese and English
  • Serve as a bridge between Japan Headquarters and overseas operations
  • Balance Group-wide priorities with local business and organizational needs

HR Leadership

  • Provide clear, practical HR recommendations to senior management
  • Prioritize organization-wide HR issues rather than responding only to individual requests
  • Lead and develop HR team members
  • Strengthen HR capabilities across the organization
  • Take increasing responsibility for the direction and performance of the Holdings HR function

What We’re Looking For

Required

  • At least five years of relevant HR experience, including HR planning, process improvement, organizational development, or related responsibilities
  • Practical experience across multiple HR areas, such as recruitment, talent development, HR systems, talent management, or workforce planning
  • Experience leading a team, function, or significant cross-functional project
  • Business-level Japanese
  • Business-level English for communication with overseas HR teams and management
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Confidence communicating directly and constructively with senior management
  • Ability to set priorities and move initiatives forward in an evolving environment

Preferred

  • HR experience in a multinational or globally operating company
  • Experience working directly with overseas HR teams
  • Global talent or leadership development experience
  • Talent management and succession planning experience
  • Strategic workforce and talent deployment planning experience
  • Organizational development experience
  • HR system design or redesign experience
  • Experience defining roles, competencies, or talent requirements
  • HR technology, HRDX, or people analytics experience
  • Experience managing and developing HR team members
  • Experience working in both Japanese and international business environments

Who Will Succeed in This Role

You naturally ask:

Where is the business going?

What talent will be needed to get there?

What should HR prioritize now?

You can look beyond a single HR specialty and understand the needs of the wider business and organization.

Not everything has already been defined. You will be expected to listen, identify priorities, build practical frameworks, and help embed them across the organization.

Success will require both flexibility and professional conviction: the ability to understand different perspectives across countries and functions while providing clear HR guidance when it matters.

Why Join Musashi Paint?

This is an opportunity to:

  • Help build and strengthen a global HR organization
  • Work directly with senior management and overseas HR leaders
  • Influence recruitment, talent development, workforce planning, and succession across an international Group
  • Lead HR initiatives from concept through implementation
  • Develop future leaders across Musashi Paint
  • Strengthen connections between Japan Headquarters and overseas locations
  • Grow toward a future senior HR leadership role

Rather than simply inheriting established processes, you will help shape the people strategy needed for Musashi Paint’s next stage of growth.

Working Environment

  • Ikebukuro Headquarters: 2-30-16 Minami-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo
  • Hybrid work available, with approximately two remote days per week
  • Flexible working hours
  • Core hours: 10:00–15:00
  • Average overtime: approximately 15 hours per month
  • 120 annual holidays
  • Saturdays and Sundays off
  • Domestic and international travel may be required
  • Future domestic or international transfers may be possible

Compensation and Benefits

JPY 8–10 million annually

Compensation will be determined based on experience and capabilities.

  • Bonus twice annually
  • 2025 bonus actual: approximately six to seven months in total
  • Commuting allowance of up to JPY 50,000 per month
  • Three-month probationary period with no change in working conditions

Bring Your HR Experience to the Future of One Musashi

If you want to apply your HR expertise beyond individual programs and contribute to global people strategy and organizational transformation, this role offers a rare opportunity.

You will connect Japan with teams across 10 countries, bring together different cultures and perspectives, and turn ideas into meaningful organizational change.

Help us build the global HR foundation that will support Musashi Paint’s next stage of growth.

We look forward to hearing from you.
