At Insmed, every moment and every patient counts — and so does every person who joins in. As a global biopharmaceutical company dedicated to transforming the lives of patients with serious and rare diseases, you’ll be part of a community that prioritizes the human experience, celebrates curiosity, and values every person’s contributions to meaningful progress. That commitment has earned us recognition as Science magazine’s No. 1 Top Employer for five consecutive years, certification as a Great Place to Work® in the U.S., and a place on The Sunday Times Best Places to Work list in the UK.

For patients, for each other, and for the future of science, we’re in. Are you?

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Global Medical Affairs Head, Neuro/Other Rare to help us expand what’s possible for patients with serious diseases. Reporting to the SVP, General Manager, of the Neuro/Other Rare TA, the Global Medical Affairs Head will serve as a strategic partner to Commercial, Global Program Teams, Clinical Development, Market Access, and other cross-functional stakeholders to ensure scientific integrity, patient-centricity, and alignment with business objectives.

This individual is a senior medical leader responsible for defining and executing the integrated medical strategy for the Neuro/Other Rare Therapeutic Area (TA) to maximize scientific leadership and support Program success. This role provides enterprise-level medical leadership across the product lifecycle and oversees a global organization comprising Medical Directors, Medical Communications, U.S. Field Medical (MSL) teams, and Integrated Evidence generation, and ensures coordinated external engagements across functions and geographies.

The Global Medical Affairs Head is expected to be a recognized scientific and clinical authority in the therapeutic area and to represent the company with external stakeholders globally.

What You'll Do:

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead the global medical strategy for the therapeutic area, translating scientific evidence and clinical insights into actionable priorities and ensuring timely delivery of key milestones and outcomes. You’ll also be responsible for:

Medical Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute the therapeutic area’s global medical strategy, aligned with corporate and franchise objectives, shared disease area strategy, therapeutic area priorities, and the integrated customer plan.
  • Translate scientific data, clinical insights, and unmet medical needs into practical strategies and solutions, navigating trade-offs within and beyond Medical.
  • Provide strategic medical input across the full product lifecycle, from early development and launch through lifecycle management and post-marketing activities.
  • Serve as the senior medical voice for the therapeutic area and a trusted advisor to the General Manager and executive leadership, ensuring scientific rigor, ethical conduct, and regulatory compliance.

Global Medical Organization Oversight

  • Lead and develop a high-performing global Medical Affairs organization spanning Global and Regional Medical Directors, Medical Communications, the U.S. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) organization, and Integrated Evidence Planning.
  • Establish clear governance, priorities, and accountability across global and regional teams while fostering collaboration, scientific excellence, and talent development.
  • Partner across therapeutic areas and with central Medical capabilities - including Medical Information, Medical Excellence, and HEOR - to drive consistent, high-quality execution and strategic and operational excellence.

Evidence Generation & Scientific Communication

  • Serve as executive sponsor for therapeutic area Integrated Evidence Planning (IEP), overseeing evidence-generation priorities and execution across Phase IV studies, real-world evidence (RWE), health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and investigator-initiated research.
  • Identify feasible approaches to evidence generation, medical communications, and customer engagement that address unmet medical needs and support strategic priorities.
  • Define and reinforce a consistent scientific narrative and key messages across evidence generation, clinical data dissemination, publications, medical education, congress activities, and field engagement, ensuring timely, accurate, and impactful communication.
  • Guide medical input into label strategy, study design, and post-marketing commitments in partnership with Development and Global Program Teams.

Field Medical & External Engagement

  • Oversee Field Medical and own the therapeutic area engagement plan for key opinion leaders (KOLs) and scientific experts, ensuring high-quality, compliant scientific exchange with healthcare professionals and external stakeholders.
  • Personally engage leading global and U.S. KOLs, academic leaders, and professional societies as a scientific ambassador, while setting expectations for proactive, effective external engagement across Medical Affairs.
  • Ensure field insights are systematically captured and translated into strategy across Medical, Commercial, and Development.

Cross-Functional Partnership & Governance

  • Serve as the senior Medical interface to Commercial leadership, aligning scientific priorities and enabling effective collaboration while preserving scientific independence and compliance.
  • Partner with Global Program Teams, Regulatory, Market Access, Pharmacovigilance, and R&D to support asset strategy and execution, and provide medical leadership in governance forums, brand teams, and portfolio discussions.
  • Identify and escalate cross-asset and systemic Medical risks to therapeutic area and enterprise leadership.
  • Ensure all Medical Affairs activities adhere to global regulations, company policies, and industry standards, championing ethical conduct, patient safety, and data integrity.

Who You Are:

You must have an MD and 15+ years of combined clinical, academic, and/or pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience with significant senior leadership experience across the Medical Affairs function. Additionally, you have:

  • Deep understanding of research and drug development and the ability to communicate data in an impactful way; ability to connect the “internal” science to the “external” unmet medical need and communicate complex clinical data in a user-friendly way.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large, multidisciplinary global medical organizations.
  • Deep expertise within the neurology therapeutic area.
  • Proven leadership of large medical affairs teams inclusive of field based MSL teams.
  • Deep understanding of Medical Affairs strategy, evidence generation, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience leading national or regional medical strategy and executing on evidence generation, KOL engagement, and medical governance.
  • Strong understanding of FDA and other U.S. regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and ethical standards.
  • Strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate medical insight into actionable business plans.
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration, executive communication, and external stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A proven track record of influencing both internal and external stakeholders as a recognized medical thought leader.

Nice to Have (but not required):
