Google Ads media buyer

🌍Worldwide🏠Remote📁Marketing
Is this job info correct?

Curve is a performance marketing agency running around 20 e-commerce brands across Norway, Sweden, Denmark and the rest of Europe. Our Google Ads specialist is moving on, so we are looking for someone to take over the entire book.

This post is longer and more specific than most. That is deliberate. We would rather you spend five minutes now working out whether this is right for you than have us both spend three weeks finding out.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

You take full performance responsibility for Google across 10 to 12 e-commerce accounts. Search, Shopping, Performance Max, YouTube and Demand Gen, plus the Merchant Center feed work that makes all of it function properly.

The book is not evenly weighted, and that is the most important thing to understand about this role. A few accounts spend seriously and deserve your best hours. Many of the others are small, and for those clients Google is a secondary channel sitting behind Meta, contributing a modest but real slice of revenue rather than driving the business.

Those small accounts still need to work. But they cannot take the same share of your week as the big ones, and nobody is going to tell you how to divide it up. Knowing what to leave alone is as much of a skill here as knowing what to optimise, and it is the thing most media buyers are worst at. The failure mode we see constantly is someone spending Tuesday afternoon tuning a campaign that spends 400 NOK a day while a serious account quietly drifts.

You are also expected to be straight with us and with clients about which accounts have real headroom and which are close to the ceiling of what their market can give.

RUNNING GOOGLE IN THE NORDICS IS A DIFFERENT JOB

Most of the smaller accounts are Norwegian, Swedish or Danish, and search volume in these markets is a fraction of what you get in English-speaking ones.

That changes the work substantially. Data is thin, so tests that would resolve in a week elsewhere take a month or never reach significance at all. Fragmented account structures starve, so consolidation usually beats granularity. You hit impression share ceilings quickly, which means growth often has to come from feed coverage, new markets or channel expansion rather than from squeezing more out of existing search demand. Smart bidding behaves differently when the conversion volume feeding it is small. And a good share of the winnable demand sits in Shopping and in the feed rather than in keywords.

If you have run Google in small markets before, whether Nordic, Dutch, Baltic or similar, mention it. It is not a requirement and we will happily hire someone sharp who has only worked in larger markets. But it is a real advantage, and it is the part of this job that surprises people most.

YOU WILL NOT BE DOING CLIENT MANAGEMENT

Sivert and Alex handle the client relationships, the calls, the asset collection and the approvals. That exists so you can spend your week in the accounts.

You will still talk to clients about strategy and still explain the reasoning behind your decisions, because media buyers who hide behind account managers get worse over time. But you will not be chasing anyone for brand guidelines or answering invoice questions.

SYSTEMS AND AI ARE PART OF THE JOB

We are not looking for someone who does everything by hand and calls it craft.

This matters more than usual given the shape of the book. The only way 10 to 12 accounts of very different sizes all get proper attention is if the routine parts run themselves. We expect you to automate what should be automated, whether that is scripts, budget pacing alerts, anomaly detection, automated reporting or feed rules, so the small accounts stay healthy without eating your week.

We build a lot of our operation on AI. We use Claude, custom internal tools and automated reporting to turn work that used to take hours into something that takes minutes. You do not need to be a developer. You do need the instinct to look at a repetitive task and want to kill it, and then actually go and do it.

WHO THRIVES AT CURVE

You take ownership without being asked, and when something breaks your first instinct is to fix it rather than work out whose fault it was. You know when to scale hard and when to hold. You understand that creative is where a lot of the performance gain sits now, even on Google, and you have opinions about angles and not just bidding. You hold strong convictions about what works, but you can be argued out of them with evidence.

You can carry a dozen accounts and several problems at once without dropping any of them, and you are comfortable deciding where your attention goes without asking permission.

This role fits poorly if you have only ever run Performance Max and let Google make the decisions, if you need someone to set your priorities each week, or if you want to move away from hands-on buying into pure strategy. It is also a poor fit if you only work well on large accounts, because a good part of this book is small and always will be.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Two or more years of hands-on Google media buying, with e-commerce experience specifically
  • A track record of scaling accounts profitably. We will ask for the numbers, and we care about the trajectory more than the headline spend
  • Real depth across Search, Shopping and Performance Max, including feed work in Merchant Center
  • The judgement to prioritise across a mixed book, and the discipline to leave small accounts alone when they do not need you
  • Comfort explaining the why behind the numbers without hiding in jargon
  • Enough overlap with European working hours to run calls with the team. You do not need to be in Europe
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Preferred but not required: experience running Google Ads in small or low-volume markets, particularly the Nordics.

Tools you will live in: Google Ads, Merchant Center, GA4, Meta Ads Manager, Asana, Slack, Claude and Notion.

HOW WE WILL MEASURE YOU

After 30 days you know every account in your book: what the brand sells, what the margins look like, how the account is structured, where the waste is, which one is most fragile and which ones genuinely have room to grow.

After 60 days you have rebuilt or restructured at least one account and can point to what changed as a result. Your reporting and pacing run on something automated rather than on you remembering. You have told us plainly which accounts you are deprioritising and why.

After 90 days you own the roadmap for the whole book, you are bringing proposals to clients rather than waiting for briefs, and the accounts with real headroom are spending meaningfully more than when you arrived, at the same or better efficiency.

HOW WE WORK

We are a small team of operators who take intensity and recovery equally seriously. We train, whether that is MMA, boxing, football, hiking or running, because mental performance needs a physical foundation. We work long days with deep focus and no notification culture. Good suggestions get implemented within seven days, with no bureaucracy in between. Curve is founder-led and both Sivert and Alex are in the trenches every day, so you will work directly with them.

THE OFFER

  • Competitive base compensation plus performance bonuses tied directly to your impact
  • Paid professional development and training, fully covered
  • Annual team trips. The last one was a villa complex with five houses in the mountains above Marbella
  • A clear path to leadership as your impact grows
  • Fully remote. Work from anywhere in the world

This is a full-time contractor position.
