About the role

As a Governance Officer, you will support the delivery of effective governance, risk management and assurance arrangements across SYMCA.

You will work closely with colleagues to identify and manage risks, maintain governance processes and support compliance with internal policies, statutory requirements and best practice standards. The role includes supporting the operation of risk management systems, maintaining governance documentation and helping to produce reports and assurance information for senior leaders, committees and boards.

You will assist with the coordination of governance reviews, audits and improvement activities, ensuring actions are monitored and implemented effectively. The role also involves supporting the development of governance policies, procedures and training, helping colleagues understand their responsibilities and promoting a positive governance culture across the organisation.

Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will help ensure governance arrangements remain effective, responsive and aligned with organisational priorities, while contributing to ongoing improvements in risk management, audit and assurance processes.

About you

You are an organised and analytical professional with an interest in governance, risk management, audit or assurance. You are comfortable working with detailed information and have a strong understanding of the importance of good governance in supporting organisational performance and accountability.

You will bring:
  • Experience working within a governance, risk, audit or compliance environment, or in a role involving similar responsibilities.
  • A good understanding of governance principles and risk management processes.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex information.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate, high-quality documentation.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues at all levels.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and business systems to manage information and reporting.
  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
You will be proactive, methodical and committed to continuous improvement, with a genuine interest in helping the organisation maintain high standards of governance, accountability and risk management. Most importantly, you will enjoy working collaboratively to support effective decision-making and organisational success across SYMCA.
