Graduate Measurement & Hydrocarbon Allocation Engineer

This is an Aberdeen-based role, with a minimum of three days per week at the Client office, Aberdeen, and the remaining two days at Sir Ian Wood House, Aberdeen. Additional days at the Client office may occasionally be required to support holiday or sickness cover.

The Role  

In this position, you will shadow our experienced Hydrocarbon Allocation Engineer. Your core responsibility will be to assist in the provision of accurate daily flow measurement totals to both internal and external stakeholders. Your work will maintain the daily and monthly production allocation process for the client asset.

This job ensures correct hydrocarbon accounting, production reporting, metering validation, data correction, and compliance. Through Energy Builder and related metering systems, you will support financial reporting, partner allocations, regulatory obligations, and daily production operations.

This is not only a fantastic learning opportunity, but also a chance to work directly within a fast-paced operations environment. This opportunity is designed to help build technical skills in hydrocarbon measurement and accountancy, while gaining invaluable business insight into the internal workings of an oil and gas operator.

Graduates would hope to gain experience in hydrocarbon accounting and metering, validation of production data, operating Energy Builder allocation systems, managing fiscal metering corrections, conducting production reconciliations and mismeasurements, issuing partner allocation reports, and delivering accurate daily and monthly hydrocarbon accounts.

Daily Data Management & Allocation

• Gathered and checked daily production, laboratory, and equipment reports to ensure information to Energy Builder
• Run hourly and daily allocation tracking to correctly split up and count total production
• Spot and fixed data errors to meet mass balance targets, generate and issue reports and XML files with partners

Quality Control & Problem Solving

• Review data and identify total errors, equipment errors, system upsets, or unusual laboratory data
• Calculate and issue mismeasurement reports
• Check and verify allocation data across oil, gas, water, and injection systems to ensure plant balanced

System & Software Management

• Daily use of Energy Builder, including updating well statuses, storage data, and cargo details
• Run key calculations for hourly, daily, and monthly production reports and verification checks
• Keep clear auditable records for measurement and allocation

Hydrocarbon Accounting & Finance Support

• Monitor plant operations, oil and gas measurement and overall mass balances daily
• Managed Bill of Lading (BOL) shipping reviews to support production and scheduling teams

Teamwork & Communication

• Connected offshore operations, lab teams, measurement technicians, and business partners
• Distributed regular allocation updates, balance sheets, and monthly financial reports
• Offered fast technical help whenever tracking or measurement problems came up

Technical Skills & Expertise Developed

• Mastered tracking oil, gas, and water production using mass balance, uncertainty and mismeasurement calculations
• Learned to manage financial-grade (fiscal) metering systems and measurement errors
• Developed knowledge of tank inventory, cargo records, and offshore production workflows

Systems & Software Knowledge

• Databases & Allocation: Energy Builder, Oracle, and production reporting databases
• Data Analytics: PI Process Book, PI Datalink, and advanced Microsoft Excel
• Specialised Tools: FLOCALC (Kelton), instrumentation systems, and Adobe Acrobat

 Expected:  

• Recent graduate engineer with a minimum 2:1 bachelor’s degree (BEng or MEng) in an Engineering discipline preferred
• Industry experience is preferable
• Demonstrate initiative, and have good communication skills
• Possess an ability to learn quickly and be adaptable and flexible to match business requirements
• Ability and desire to work in diverse and multi-disciplinary team environments
