Visualisation is a core part of what we build at Sensat.

It’s where huge, complex and often messy project datasets are turned into something engineers and project teams can actually see, understand and use. Done well, it can help a team spot an issue earlier, understand what’s happening across a project and make better decisions.

We’re looking for a Graduate Software Engineer who wants to build real depth in computer graphics, 3D data and geospatial technology, while also developing as a well-rounded software engineer across our wider platform.

Graphics and data processing will be where you go deepest, and it’s a genuinely difficult area to learn in. You’ll get exposure to large-scale 3D datasets and real production engineering problems early in your career, rather than spending your first year watching from the sidelines.

You won’t be expected to figure everything out alone. You’ll have a mentor, work that’s scoped to stretch you without sinking you, and a team that expects you to ask questions.

Over time, you’ll build specialist knowledge in an area many software engineers never get the chance to work in, alongside a broader understanding of how a production SaaS platform fits together.

🛠️ What you'll be doing

You’ll spend most of your time working around graphics, geospatial data and the processing pipelines that power our visualisation platform, gradually broadening your experience across the wider product.

You’ll:
  • Work on pipelines that process, optimise and serve large-scale geospatial and CAD datasets for the web.
  • Get hands-on with modern 3D formats including glTF, USD, 3D Tiles and point clouds, learning how they’re stored, streamed and rendered efficiently.
  • Implement and improve rendering features using WebGL-based technologies, supported by engineers who know the platform inside out.
  • Work with the maths behind 3D graphics, including transform hierarchies, matrices, rotations and camera systems.
  • Contribute production code to the wider Sensat platform, with opportunities to work across Golang, Postgres, Angular and AWS as you develop.
  • Write tested, maintainable code and build strong engineering habits through code reviews, pairing and regular technical feedback.
  • Work alongside Product and customer-facing teams, so you understand how the things you build are actually used by our customers.
  • Take on increasingly complex problems as your confidence and knowledge grow.
You’ll have a mentor, regular feedback and properly scoped work designed to stretch you without throwing you in at the deep end.

  • Gets genuinely interested in graphics, rendering, 3D technology or geospatial problems.
  • Likes difficult technical problems that require a bit of thinking rather than an obvious copy-and-paste solution.
  • Is comfortable asking questions when you’re stuck, but will have a go at investigating the problem first.
  • Wants feedback and sees code review as a chance to get better.
  • Enjoys learning how different parts of a system fit together.
  • Cares about writing good software, not just getting something to compile.
  • Wants to develop real technical depth while still understanding the wider product you’re building.

🎯 Your experience might look something like this…

This is a graduate role, so we’re not expecting years of commercial experience.

What we do need is evidence that you’ve already started developing solid software engineering and graphics fundamentals, whether that’s through university, placements, internships, personal projects or open-source work.

Must haves:
  • Software development experience through a Computer Science, Software Engineering or related degree, placement, internship or substantial personal projects.
  • Familiarity with at least one computer graphics API or library such as OpenGL, Vulkan or WebGL.
  • Comfortable with 3D linear algebra, including transform hierarchies, rotation matrices, quaternions and Euler angles.
  • Experience working in a systems or compiled language such as C, C++, Rust or Go.
  • An interest in understanding lower-level technical problems rather than staying purely at application level.
Bonus points for:

These are genuinely bonuses, not a secret second must-have list:
  • Writing your own graphics shaders.
  • Experience with WebGL-based libraries such as three.js, luma.gl, deck.gl or Babylon.js.
  • Familiarity with formats such as glTF, USD or 3D Tiles.
  • Exposure to GIS, geospatial or remote-sensing concepts, including coordinate reference systems, raster/vector data or point clouds.
  • Personal projects, university work or open-source contributions involving graphics, games, simulation, mapping or 3D technology.
If some of those terms are things you’ve only started exploring, that’s okay. Curiosity and strong foundations matter more to us than arriving with a perfectly matched tech stack.
