Position Title: Grant & Funding Development Specialist, 30 Birds Foundation Canada Team

Position Type: Full-Time (37.5 hours/week), 1-Year Fixed-Term Contract (with intent for permanence based on mutual fit and success)

Location: Remote (Canada-wide)

Compensation: $70,000 CAD / year

About Us & Our Work Culture

30 Birds Foundation Canada works to rebuild pathways for Afghan newcomer women and girls to learn, lead, and live freely. Our community includes extraordinary young Afghan women and emerging leaders across Canada who are building new lives, pursuing education, developing their skills, and stepping into leadership in their schools, workplaces, and communities.

Our work is focused on creating the long-term pathways that make that success possible, from scholarships and education support to leadership development, mentorship, wellness, career readiness. We help create access to training and opportunities for these young women to build the confidence, networks, and resources they need to shape their own futures. We believe deeply in the potential of the young women we work alongside, and in creating the conditions for them to fulfill their potential here in Canada, to thrive, to lead, and to add their talents to the fabric of our national identity.

At our core, we believe that impact is built on strong relationships, intentional strategy, and a supported team. We value autonomy, clear communication, and working together towards shared goals. We respect your time and expertise, and we strive to create an environment where you are set up to thrive without burnout- supporting your ongoing professional growth and prioritizing real work-life balance.

We are entering an exciting phase of organizational growth, and we are looking for a dedicated Grant & Funding Development Specialist to join us. In this role, you won't be expected to do it all alone- you will be the strategic storyteller and researcher backing our team, working side-by-side with our Executive Director who takes the lead on external relational gifts and closing sponsorship opportunities.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As our Grant & Funding Development Specialist, you will drive our institutional funding pipeline. You will research, craft, and manage grant proposals, lead grant reporting cycles, and build highly-aligned corporate sponsorship packages that empower our Executive Director to secure transformative funding.

Core Responsibilities

  • Grant Lead Research: You will research, craft, and manage grant proposals as well as sourcing new opportunities and areas of interest that align with the Foundation’s mission statement.

  • Grant Proposal Development: Lead the end-to-end writing, editing, and submission process for foundation, corporate, and government grant opportunities.

  • Grant Reporting & Stewardship: Serve as the primary lead for tracking, writing, and submitting funder impact reports, working collaboratively with team members who will supply the needed data and insights.

  • Funding Pipeline Management: Research, identify, and maintain a calendarized pipeline of highly aligned funding opportunities mapped 6–12 months in advance.

  • Sponsorship Preparation: Develop customized pitch materials, partner packages, and brief executive summaries to equip the Executive Director for donor and corporate partner meetings.

  • Funder Engagement Support: Help gather and integrate post-submission feedback to continuously refine our messaging and approach.

  • CRM Development and Management: Building a user-friendly CRM tool to track donors and pipeline leads.

Year 1 Shared Success Goals

We believe in clear, achievable goals that prioritize quality and pipeline health over unrealistic pressure:

  • Submission Volume: Strategically prepare and submit approximately $2.5 -$3,000,000 in total grant and funding applications over the course of the year.

  • Reporting Excellence: Lead and deliver timely, high-quality impact reports to existing funders, keeping relationships warm and compliant.

  • Robust Pipeline: Maintain an active, vetted, and multi-year pipeline of warm and cold funding prospects.

  • Sponsorship Alignment: Deliver clear, tailored briefing decks for high-likelihood corporate sponsorship opportunities for the Executive Director to pitch.

  • Quality & Win Rate: Target a healthy 30% with an aspirational goal of 35-40%+ win rate on aligned/warm applications through thorough prospect research and compelling storytelling.

What You Bring to the Role

  • Proven Grant Writing Experience: Demonstrated track record of writing successful foundation and/or government grant applications in the non-profit sector.

  • Reporting & Compliance Focus: Experience coordinating and drafting grant reporting deliverables with inputs from programmatic teams.

  • Strategic Research Skills: Ability to analyze funder priorities, eligibility criteria, and alignment before investing time in applications.

  • Strong Narrative & Analytical Skills: Ability to translate complex program outcomes and financial budgets into clear, compelling narratives.

  • Collaborative Mindset: Enjoy working closely with leadership and program staff, sharing insights, and preparing partners for successful external meetings.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary: $70,000 annually for a 37.45-hour full-time work week.

  • 100% Remote Work: Complete flexibility to work from anywhere in Canada, backed by digital collaboration tools and steady team communication. Applicants must reside in Canada to be eligible.

  • Balanced Workflow: Clear distinction of responsibilities- you focus on research, reporting, strategy, and writing.

  • Path to Permanence: A structured, transparent evaluation at the 9–10 month mark with the genuine intention of converting this role into a permanent staff position upon sustained funding success.
