Position Summary The Grants Manager serves as the primary resource for identifying, securing, and managing grant funding opportunities in support of strategic priorities at the ECU Health Medical Center. This role leads full life-cycle grant activities, including prospect research, proposal development, submission, compliance, and post-award management. The Grants Manager partners closely with medical center leadership, service lines, and system stakeholders to align external funding opportunities with clinical, operational, academic, and community health initiatives. Responsibilities Grant Strategy & Prospecting: Identify, research, and prioritize grant opportunities aligned with Medical Center and system strategic initiatives, including clinical programs, capital needs, research, workforce development, and community health programs. Develop and maintain a proactive grant pipeline and funding strategy in collaboration with leadership and key stakeholders. Monitor federal, state, and private funding sources (e.g., Grants.gov, foundations, and healthcare-focused funders) to identify relevant opportunities. Stakeholder Engagement & Alignment: Serve as the primary point of contact for ECU Health Medical Center leadership, department administrators, and service line leaders for grant-related initiatives. Proactively engage leaders and physicians to identify emerging programs and projects suitable for grant funding. Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including the ECU Health Grants Office, system service lines, and operational teams to ensure alignment and avoid duplication of efforts. Collaborate with academic and research partners, including East Carolina University Office of Research Administration, when applicable. Grant Development & Submission: Lead and facilitate the development of competitive grant proposals, including narrative writing, budget coordination, and supporting documentation. Translate clinical and operational concepts into compelling, fundable proposals using strong professional writing skills and knowledge of healthcare trends. Coordinate technical input from subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and completeness of proposals. Ensure timely submission of all proposals in compliance with funder requirements. Post-Award Management & Compliance: Support implementation of awarded grants, ensuring alignment with approved scope, timeline, and budget. Monitor grant-funded projects and provide technical assistance to project leads to ensure successful execution. Track performance metrics and outcomes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to funding agencies. Ensure compliance with all regulatory, financial, and documentation requirements, including internal policies and external grantor guidelines. Assist in developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and internal controls related to grant management to mitigate risk. Communication & Education: Increase awareness among Medical Center staff and physicians of grant funding opportunities and processes. Serve as an internal consultant and educator on grant strategy, development, and compliance. Disseminate information on funding opportunities and best practices in grant writing and management. Community & Strategic Impact: Support initiatives that improve health outcomes and address identified community health needs across eastern North Carolina. Align grant-seeking efforts with Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) and organizational priorities. Minimum Requirements Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred (Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field). 3 - 5+ years of experience in grant writing, grant management, or healthcare program development (5 - 7+ years preferred for Medical Center complexity). Experience with federal, state, and foundation grants strongly preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong grant writing, editing, and research skills. Knowledge of healthcare systems, clinical programs, and funding landscapes. Ability to manage multiple complex projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with clinical and executive leadership. Familiarity with grant compliance, reporting, and financial oversight. Analytical mindset with ability to define and track program metrics and outcomes.
